Porsche is upgrading the Cayenne six-cylinder model via a special series known as the Platinum Edition. The Platinum Edition Cayenne and Cayenne Diesel models feature some especially high-quality equipment and offer many of the most-requested options as standard. Externally, the special status of these models is demonstrated by the numerous detailed paint finishes in Platinum Silver Metallic, while an elegant ambience has been created in the interior with exclusive two-tone fittings. Porsche only assigns the Platinum Edition designation to its exclusive, elegant vehicle ranges that are available for a limited period only. The enhanced equipment range available in these vehicles is designed to increase comfort and safety in particular. For example, the Cayenne Platinum Edition models feature the eight-gear Tiptronic S, Bi-Xenon main headlights and Power Steering Plus, as well as the ParkAssist system at the front and rear as standard. The automatic anti-dazzle interior mirrors eliminate the dazzle from traffic behind the vehicle and the privacy glazing (also available as standard) protects the rear passengers from unwanted attention.

Painted in Platinum Silver Metallic, the lateral and central air intake grill fins, the side window strips, the rear spoiler lip and the trim strip on the tailgate create a shimmering effect. The Black/Luxor Beige two-tone combination, reserved for this special edition, creates an exclusively elegant ambience in the interior. The vehicles come with a partial leather interior as standard, but a full leather interior is also available as an option. The floor mats, with Luxor Beige edging and Porsche logo, and the front door entry guards with the "Platinum Edition" logo, represent further highlights. The standard SportDesign steering wheel with shift paddles and the embossed Porsche crest on the headrests at the front and rear emphasise the high quality of the vehicle. The Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, including a navigation module, is also a standard feature: The PCM includes a high-resolution seven-inch touchscreen and a sound system with 11 loudspeakers and total power of 235 watt. The Cayenne Platinum Edition offers an output of 300 hp (220 kW). In combination with the Tiptronic S, the vehicle's NEDC fuel consumption is 9.9 litres/100 km (236 g/km CO2). The three litre V6 engine in the Cayenne Diesel Platinum Edition offers an output of 245 hp (180 kW) and a fuel consumption level of 7.2 litres of diesel over 100 kilometres (189 g/km CO2). The Cayenne Platinum Edition costs 鈧?6,379 and it is 鈧?7,212 for the Cayenne Diesel Platinum Edition (including VAT).

On the safety front, standard systems include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning with steering assist, automatic high beam and road sign assist. Available active safety and convenience features are adaptive full speed cruise control, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert and rear-end collision warning. As for the infotainment part, the 2020 Supra brings a standard 6.5-inch display operated by a rotary controller on the center console. The 3.0 Premium grade gets an 8.8-inch touchscreen display with navigation, rotary touch controller, Supra Connect telematics services, wireless Apple CarPlay, a premium 12-speaker JBL audio system, and wireless phone charging. 55,250 for the Launch Edition, which will be the sole trim level initially available in a limited run of 1,500 units. Sales in the U.S. Launch Edition will be offered in Absolute Zero White, Nocturnal Black or Renaissance Red 2.0 paint jobs, with contrasting red mirror caps and 19-inch black matte forged alloys. The first two will get a red leather interior, while the third color option a black one, both with carbon accents. Moreover, the limited run Supras will get a plaque on the passenger鈥檚 side of the dashboard with the car鈥檚 serial numbers along with a graphic of Toyota鈥檚 CEO Akio Toyoda鈥檚 signature.

Although it鈥檚 been quite some time since Aston Martin had a six-cylinder in its range, it appears that the upcoming Aston Martin DBX crossover could be offered with a six-cylinder engine. During a recent event with Australian media, chief creative officer Marek Reichman suggested that a six-cylinder engine from Mercedes-Benz could suit the DBX quite well. While it remains to be seen which Mercedes six-cylinder Aston Martin could be given access to, one likely powertrain would be the M256 turbocharged 3.0-liter petrol inline six recently introduced with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. While this powertrain isn鈥檛 as exciting as the V8 and V12s currently used by Aston, it can produce upwards of 382 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, figures more than adequate for everyday use. While it remains to be seen whether Aston Martin will opt to use such an engine, we do know for sure that the DBX will be the marque鈥檚 first model to be available with a hybrid powertrain. According to the most recent reports, this variant could pair AMG鈥檚 twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 with an electric motor offering up 200 hp. Combined, this could give the hybrid DBX more than 700 hp, making it even more powerful than the Lamborghini Urus. At least one other traditional gasoline-powered model will join the potential six-cylinder DBX. This powertrain will either be the 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 used by the DB11 and producing roughly 600 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque in DBX guise or the aforementioned AMG twin-turbo V8 but without any electrical assist.

BMW M140i Finale Edition

BMW is sending off the outgoing M140i in style with the 鈥楩inale鈥?Package. It鈥檚 already available to order Down Under, where it will arrive in showrooms from March, and adds a few visual mods and extra gear to the current hot hatch, which will be replaced by a new generation soon. These add up to the extensive list of standard equipment which includes items such as the adaptive LED headlights with Selective Beam, Adaptive M suspension and M Sport Brakes with Blue calipers. Front and rear parking sensors, 8.8-inch infotainment system with navigation, BMW ConnectedDrive, Dakota Leather upholstery, Comfort Access System and Harman/Kardon audio round up the package. The M140i is powered by a 3.0-liter straight-six with TwinPower Turbo technology that鈥檚 rated at 335 hp and 500 Nm of torque. The output is directed to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission, for a 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.6 seconds. As for the all-new M140i, it will move upmarket in terms of power and is believed to get close to the 400-horsepower mark. The upcoming 1-Series will, however, for the first-time ever ride on a FWD-biased platform, although M models should benefit from all-wheel drive.

The seven-inch touchscreen display is poor (see Infotainment, Page 44), so the Honda鈥檚 cabin is a weak point in this test. However, the Civic鈥檚 bright red sports seats go some way to make up for that. The driving position is close to perfect, while the bolsters provide loads of support and they add a sense of occasion to the cabin that鈥檚 somewhat missing from its rivals鈥? The Type R GT version has plenty of standard kit, including sat-nav, climate control, parking sensors and wireless smartphone charging. Also fitted is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality, plus blind spot monitoring. Adaptive dampers and a limited-slip differential are standard, too, the former being optional on both rivals. R mode is best saved for the track and is a little too firm for everyday use. Sport mode is still taut, but only the worst potholes will cause serious discomfort. Comfort will allow plenty of fun, too, although it softens the dampers for everyday driving and offers a surprising level of compliance. The Honda鈥檚 composure is combined with a superb limited-slip differential, which improves traction as you come out of corners.

It鈥檚 so effective at eliminating understeer that the car feels the most alert of this trio. Better still, the Civic Type R鈥檚 steering is more communicative than its rivals鈥? with the whole driving experience much more involving. That鈥檚 helped by the near-perfect manual gearshift, good brake feel and the ferocious 2.0-litre engine. It has more of an appetite for revs than its opponents in this test, but does without the pops and bangs of the German cars. Some people will find these contrived; others will feel they add character. However, even though the engine is the most powerful here and the Civic is the lightest car, it trailed its rivals in our acceleration tests. It was severely limited for off-the-line traction with only two powered wheels and no launch control. It would get closer to its competitors in the dry. But it鈥檚 more fun to engage with the Type R and maximise its performance.

As with the A 35 and Golf, you simply keep your foot to the floor and the electronics do all the work for you. Of course, it doesn鈥檛 have the four-wheel-drive security of its rivals, but the Honda feels more alive as a result. Even with its pumped-up looks, the Civic Type R is still very practical. It has the biggest boot of the three cars with the rear seats in place, at 420 litres, and there鈥檚 plenty of leg and headroom in the back. Storage space around the gearlever is limited, but there鈥檚 a deep central bin with a single cup-holder. It鈥檚 just a pity this makes changing gear tricky if your bottle or cup is tall. This is partly due to the strange dash design. For example, the USB charging points are tucked away out of sight. The Civic comes with autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition as standard. Honda鈥檚 third-place finish in our Driver Power 2018 survey was strong, and shaded VW鈥檚 fifth spot.

It was a little different for the brands鈥?garage networks in our latest Driver Power dealer poll, with Honda retailers ranking second, while Volkswagen came 18th and Mercedes was in between, in 13th place out of 28 manufacturers. Our depreciation experts predict that you鈥檒l lose 拢16,930 on the Civic over three years, because it holds on to 49.5 per cent of its original list price and is the cheapest car of the three in this test. The Golf鈥檚 expected 47.1 per cent residual value means a loss of 拢18,467 over the same period, while the A 35 still sheds 拢18,288 with its anticipated 48.6 per cent figure. Thanks to its long list of standard equipment, the Type R is by far the best-value model of our trio. It鈥檚 also the cheapest to insure: our example driver will pay an annual premium of 拢420 to cover the Civic, whereas it鈥檚 拢725 and 拢695 for the A 35 and Golf R respectively.

New Volkswagen Golf Match Edition Announced

Ahead of the all-new Golf鈥檚 release next year, Volkswagen has announced a run-out edition for the current generation hatch called the Match. The model replaces the Golf SE and SE Nav editions, adding more standard equipment for a reduced cost. Prices start at 拢20,545, and deliveries are expected to commence next month. The VW Golf Match receives the standard equipment from the SE and SE Nav trim levels, including an eight-inch touchscreen display with DAB radio and sat-nav, adaptive cruise control, Apple Car-Play and Android Auto. In addition, the Match will come with new 16-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps and rear privacy glass. The Golf Match will be offered in two body-styles: hatchback (拢20,545) and estate (拢22,420). If you want something even more practical the Golf SV MPV is also available as a Match edition (拢22,780). The current range of Golf engines will be available in the Match, starting with a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol and climbing to a 1.6-litre four-cylinder diesel. The range-topping Golf SV will also be available with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel. All engines will be available with either a six-speed manual, or seven-speed automatic gearbox with the exception of the 2.0-litre diesel in the SV, which is only fitted with a seven-speed DSG. On average, the DSG auto costs around 拢2,000 more than the manual across the range. Elsewhere, Volkswagen has also updated the Golf GTI Performance and R models with standard fit keyless-entry, rear-view camera and lane-assist. It鈥檚 the Korean manufacturers first effort at a performance car and the Los Angeles-based custom shop has made some changes to the five-door liftback. From the only picture that is available, the ride has been lowered significantly and the exhausts have been given a touch up. Further examples of the juiced up Stinger include 21-inch forged wheels, wider flares, a rear diffuser and a carbon fibre aerodynamic kit. The West Coast Customs Stinger will be pitched alongside two other custom Kia鈥檚 at the Las Vegas exhibit. The first example is the LC Inspiration Series, which is influenced by the Black Panther comic book character in terms of performance and sophistication. A bespoke white interior is fitted to the Inspiration Series LC 500, which features a unique limited edition collection of barware courtesy of Barneys. The exterior boasts 21-inch forged alloy wheels and Lexus鈥?special edition Structual Blue paint. The LC 500 Inspiration Series is limited to just 100 examples. A less subtle 鈥楤lack Panther Inspired鈥?LC 500 will be pitted alongside the classy Inspiration Series model. Amidst the two-tone black and blue paint scheme, the underbody glows in a vibrant blue light and the bonnet is embroidered with the Black Panther emblem. Ten-spoke wheels and painted claws on the wing mirrors further compliment this special edition LC that鈥檚 not available for purchase, therefore it鈥檚 unlikely you鈥檒l ever see one in public. Mercedes-Benz keeps expanding its most compact model line - and this is the latest. It鈥檚 the new A-Class sedan, and it鈥檚 running full-speed ahead to the North American market. Previously revealed in long-wheelbase form for the Chinese market and as a hatchback for Europe, the new standard-wheelbase A-Class sedan sits alongside the CLA four-door coupe and underneath the larger C-Class sedan. It鈥檚 the Silver Star automaker鈥檚 rival to the Audi A3 that was similarly be-trunked with US customers in mind, and boasts a rather slippery shape to cheat the wind of its aerodynamic drag. At 4,549 mm long and riding on a 2,729-mm wheelbase, the standard-wheelbase model is 60 mm shorter than the version being made in China - but it still packs everything that Daimler could throw at it. Powertrain options are market-dependent. In the US, the sedan will come in A220 guise with a 2.0-liter turbo four producing 188 hp and 300 Nm of torque, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and available in either front- or all-wheel drive. Elsewhere it鈥檒l be offered as the A200 with 163 hp and 250 Nm or the A180d with 116 hp and 260 Nm. It鈥檒l also be produced in different locations for different markets. The North American version will be built at the COMPAS plant that Daimler built together with the Renault-Nissan Alliance in Aguascalientes, Mexico. European examples will be made alongside the hatchback in Rastatt, Germany. And the long-wheelbase version for China is being built by joint venture with BAIC in Beijing. Following its world premiere today in Brooklyn, we鈥檙e told to expect the first examples to start showing up in US showrooms later this year.

2019 Lexus IS 300 F Sport Black Line Special Edition

The Lexus IS 300 F Sport will become available in a new special edition called Black Line. Limited to 900 units for 2019, it entered production earlier this month and will arrive at dealers in March. The Black Line treatment can be applied to both the rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions of the IS 300 F Sport. The first one is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-four, with 241 hp and an eight-speed auto, while the second one uses a 260 hp 3.5-liter V6 and a six-speed automatic gearbox. Subtle styling changes on the outside include the black side mirror casings and 18-inch split spoke wheels, with the 鈥榖lack vapor chrome鈥?finish, a technology shared with the larger LS. Also, clients will have to choose between three exterior colors called Ultra White, Atomic Silver and Obsidian. Toyota鈥檚 luxury car brand is offering the IS 300 F Sport Black Line with the red-accented black Nuluxe seats. Other interior features include red stitching on the seats, central console and armrests, as well as more red accents on each side of the center stack. Also part of the package is the black wood-trimmed steering wheel with distinctive black shades - said to have been created by a Japanese calligraphy shop.

The 2018 Porsche Macan gets a new cabin air filter and an updated instrument cluster display that shows cabin air circulation. Slotting below the midsize Cayenne, the 2018 Porsche Macan is the brand鈥檚 entry-level compact luxury crossover and comes standard with all-wheel drive. Two engines are available in the 2018 Macan including a 2.0-liter turbo-four with 252 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque in the base model or a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V-6 in the S, GTS, and Turbo variants. There鈥檚 17.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and it can be expanded to 53 cubic feet with them down. All variants of the Macan can tow up to 4,409 pounds of payload when properly equipped. Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels, the PCM multimedia interface, parking sensors, a rearview camera, Bluetooth connectivity, a 7.0-inch multi-information display, a power tailgate, HID headlights, power front seats, 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats, and tri-zone climate control. The NHTSA and IIHS haven鈥檛 crash tested the 2018 Porsche Macan. Lane change assist can be had as a standalone option or bundled with lane keep assist. Adaptive cruise control comes bundled together with Porsche Active Safe system, which combines forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking. In a 2015 First Test, we said that the Macan drives as a Porsche should, offering strong acceleration and sure-footed handling when the road starts turning. Steering feel, however, could be improved with more feedback. When the pavement ends, the Macan is surprisingly capable; however, it鈥檚 no rock crawler and should be limited to light trails and not extreme rock crawling.

Pricing 鈥?especially when equipped with desirable options 鈥?is a bit above some of its rivals. The mid-level Macan GTS splits the difference between the Macan S and Turbo but also provides an even more driver-centric experience just like every GTS model. In terms of handling, the Macan GTS is superior to the other models in the lineup including the more powerful Macan Turbo thanks to its superior suspension setup. On the road, we noted in a 2017 First Test that the Macan GTS drives just like one would expect out of a Porsche, offering confident handling and quick acceleration with its twin-turbo V-6. However, some issues caused the Macan GTS to place third in a recent comparison test to the Mercedes-AMG GLC43 and the Jaguar F-Pace S, which was the winner. Its cabin, for instance is cramped and the seats give up too much comfort in the name of sporty driving, and it felt out of its element on the highway. Surprisingly the Macan GTS鈥?twin-clutch automatic isn鈥檛 as polished as it is on other Porsche vehicles, shifting harshly and sometimes interrupting power delivery. The twin-turbo V-6 also suffers from turbo lag and runs out of power the closer you get to its redline.

New 394bhp Range Rover Sport HST Special Edition Announced

Jaguar Land Rover had pulled the wraps off a special edition Range Rover Sport HST. The new model comes with an all-new 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six mild-hybrid engine, as well as a range of exclusive interior and exterior trim. On sale now, the HST is priced from 拢81,250.
