The large cooling air inlet in the lower area of the front section and the upper air inlet are kept black. Together with the XL1 and the Beetle, the all-new Scirocco is also the only Volkswagen where the VW logo is on the bonnet. The front headlights now feature a narrow, convex LED contour underneath the xenon bulbs which looks like an eyelid and functions as daytime running lights. The indicators are placed separately in the outer regions of the bumper, with fog lights as well as the daytime running lights in the standard version.

Volkswagen To Reduce Model Count And Increase Vehicle Costs

Volkswagen will slim down its model portfolio, streamline the number of variants offered and increase vehicle costs in a bid to improve profitability, the company has confirmed. VW sold almost 84,000 Golfs in Germany in 2018 with more than 58,000 models in different configurations. A small minority of Golfs were identical. Over the next five years, VW intends to optimise vehicle manufacture by removing poor-selling engine and trim variants. Next year, VW will axe 25 per cent of its engine and gearbox variants in Europe, concentrating on the high-demand variants, to simplify production. For example, cars with automatic transmissions and four-wheel-drive systems sell poorly across the VW range. VW鈥檚 Chief operating officer Ralf Brandstatter said that internal combustion cars within Volkswagen鈥檚 range are likely to increase in cost to help fund Volkswagen鈥檚 movement towards e-mobility and cover off the rising cost of diesel technology. There has been a strong customer shift away from diesel engines following the Dieselgate scandal; as a result VW will be limiting the number of diesel engines in its range.

Other low-demand equipment packages and optional extras will either be assimilated into other packages or discontinued. Volkswagen also aims to implement more CO2 reduction measures in the production of its vehicles, with aims of meeting the new European standard of 95g/km of CO2. The company is planning to offer carbon-neutral electricity for most European markets, allowing customers to charge their vehicles without impacting the environment. Three electric vehicles, the new e-Golf, e-Lavida and e-Bora, will be introduced to the Chinese market by the middle of next year, while the e-Polo will follow. It鈥檚 unlikely these vehicles will be offered in Europe. VW鈥檚 SUV segment will also expand over the coming years; eventually one in every two Volkswagens sold will be an SUV the firm predicts. The T-Roc Cabrio will debut in the European market in the second half of 2019, along with new Golf and the first of the new all-electric I.D. Volkswagen states it intends to 鈥渄emocratise e-mobility鈥?with the I.D. 鈥渆-mobility accessible and affordable for everyone,鈥?in the same manner as it did with the original VW Beetle. The new I.D. will have an all-electric range of up to 341 miles on the WLTP cycle, and will be priced similarly to the new Golf diesel. Like all new Volkswagen cars, model complexity will be restricted in the I.D. Volkswagen is aiming for customers to be able to configure their cars within 10 minutes.

In 2012 Tesla stopped production of the Roadster to concentrate on its new Model S sedan, which was acclaimed by automotive critics for its performance and design. It came with three different battery options, which gave estimated ranges of 235 or 300 miles (379 or 483 km). The battery option with the highest performance gave an acceleration of 0 to 60 miles (96 km) per hour in slightly over 4 seconds and a top speed of 130 miles (209 km) per hour. Unlike the Roadster, which carried its batteries at the front of the car, the Model S had its underneath the floor, which gave extra storage space in front and improved handling because of its low centre of gravity. The Tesla Autopilot, a form of semiautonomous driving, was made available in 2014 on the Model S (and later on other models). Beginning in 2012, Tesla built stations called Superchargers in the United States and Europe designed for charging batteries quickly and at no extra cost to Tesla owners. Later versions of those stations were called Tesla Stations and also had the capability of complete replacement of the Model S battery pack. The company also branched out into solar energy products. The following year Musk made a series of tweets about taking Tesla private, claiming that he had secured funding. In September 2018 the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charged him with securities fraud, alleging that his tweets were 鈥渇alse and misleading.鈥?Later that month Tesla鈥檚 board rejected a proposed settlement from the SEC, reportedly after Musk threatened to resign. However, news of the rejected deal sent Tesla鈥檚 stock plummeting, and the board quickly accepted a less generous settlement, the terms of which included Musk stepping down as chairman for at least three years. However, he was allowed to remain as CEO.

In the wake of beating around Michigan International Speedway in a C400 amid our Best of the Best testing a few months prior, I was disappointed by its elements. It felt substantial as the body sloshed around when adjusting the infield street course. There surely wasn't an issue in the force office, however, with 329 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque accessible from the turbocharged V6 making the C400 absolute brisk off the line. Everything makes for a cushy and quick road auto with a perfectly trimmed inside that peculiarities S-class levels of extravagance now. Andy, who went on the first commute of the new C-class recently, let me know that the less capable C300 was the handler of the gathering. It would appear, he's privilege. Our 2015 Mercedes-Benz C300 4matic tips the scales at just about 100 pounds not exactly the C400 4matic, which most likely helps it feeling lighter on its feet.

Mercedes X-Class Vs Volkswagen Amarok

The new Mercedes X-Class is making waves in the pick-up sector, as we found out in our first group test last May. It brought comfort levels more akin to an SUV, without sacrificing its workhorse credentials. Now there鈥檚 a new model with even more grunt. This X 350 d has a powerful V6 and sits above the four-cylinder version we tested previously. To match it there鈥檚 also a new challenger from Volkswagen. The Amarok has been given a more potent V6 to match the Mercedes鈥? Both models have the same power output and cost more than 拢47,000, so are the priciest, most premium pick-ups around. But which monster truck is the better buy? This new X-Class and the high-spec Amarok offer something a bit different to most other pick-up trucks. They are designed to appeal to buyers looking for a bit more luxury and quality, without sacrificing the versatility and practicality of a truck. This Mercedes X 350 d V6 adds to that appeal with effortless performance. While the engine revs smoothly, it鈥檚 surprisingly noisy.

The X-Class鈥檚 V6 makes less of a racket at idle, but the motor is actually louder than the Volkswagen鈥檚 on the move, particularly if the transmission shifts down and flares up the revs. The new seven-speed automatic box is a weak point, too, because it鈥檚 slow to respond. This is most noticeable at a junction where you鈥檝e slowed down and need to speed up again quickly. The gearbox takes much longer than the VW鈥檚 unit to change down, or to transmit power when pulling away. With one fewer ratio than its rival, the Mercedes fell behind in our performance tests as well. It took four seconds to go from 30-50mph in fourth gear, 1.6 seconds behind the Volkswagen, and 9.7 seconds to cover 50-70mph in seventh, which was 3.3 seconds adrift of the Amarok. That鈥檚 not to say it鈥檚 slow, however; both of these high-powered trucks deliver an impressive turn of speed, but it鈥檚 the in-gear torque which will be the biggest benefit when filled with a payload. We recorded a 0-60mph time of just 7.5 seconds in the X 350 d, half a second slower than the Amarok.

Trucks like these often struggle to control their weight because their suspension set-up is designed to maximise payload, but Mercedes has managed to provide a carrying capacity of 1,067kg without adversely affecting the quality of the ride. It鈥檚 not night and day next to the Amarok, which is also among the better-riding trucks, but the X-Class certainly has the edge for comfort. It doesn鈥檛 skip and shuffle over bumps as much as the VW, and the rear end isn鈥檛 as juddery with an empty bed. The Mercedes is more car-like to drive than the Amarok, and the extra composure means it鈥檚 a refined cruiser. But neither model is that sharp to drive. There are more soft-touch plastics on the dash top and doors of the X-Class than in the VW, along with metal-effect trim to make the inside look more like the brand鈥檚 car range. However, this stemmed from our test model鈥檚 pricey 拢1,098 leather interior package option, plus Mercedes鈥?8.4-inch COMAND infotainment, at a steep 拢2,748.

Top-spec Power trim brings a reversing camera, cruise control, electric seats, climate control and man-made leather upholstery as standard. 鈥?Infotainment: Optional sat-nav system in X-Class comes from older-generation Mercedes cars. 鈥?Storage: There鈥檚 no obvious place to put your phone, other than in the cup-holder. As with the X-Class, the Amarok is only available as a double-cab truck, but unlike its rival, the Volkswagen comes exclusively with V6 engines. While there are three outputs, the Aventura is only offered with the most powerful 254bhp model we鈥檙e testing; this also exclusively features an eight-speed automatic gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive. The transmission is as smooth as the Mercedes鈥?seven-speed in auto mode, yet it shifts up and down more quickly when needed. Thanks to the extra gear, VW was able to shorten each ratio in turn, which boosts the V6鈥檚 performance further. The 254bhp, 580Nm unit is incredible. It took the Amarok from 0-60mph in seven seconds, half a second faster than its rival (and, amazingly, quicker than a Ford Fiesta ST).

The VW clocked 2.5 seconds from 30-50mph in third gear, and in fourth gear it needed just 2.4 seconds to do the same sprint, which demonstrates just how torquey this engine is. That ability will help with pulling heavy loads, aiding flexibility. The X-Class took 3.0 and 4.0 seconds respectively. On the move the VW鈥檚 V6 is quieter, too. It鈥檚 less harsh and you can keep it in a higher gear more of the time and make use of the low-down grunt. The Amarok has a traditional ladder chassis and leaf-spring rear suspension, so it tends to shudder and crash if you don鈥檛 have anything in the load bay. While the movement of the suspension is more noticeable on a country road than in its rival, the VW isn鈥檛 uncomfortable and it鈥檚 only a little behind the X-Class鈥檚 cruising refinement on the motorway. It鈥檚 a bit easier to drive, too, because the Amarok has better forward visibility and lighter steering than the Mercedes.

Elsewhere, Volkswagen has also updated the Golf GTI Performance and R models with standard fit keyless-entry, rear-view camera and lane-assist. Now read our review of the current-generation Golf GTI.

It鈥檚 the Korean manufacturers first effort at a performance car and the Los Angeles-based custom shop has made some changes to the five-door liftback. Further examples of the juiced up Stinger include 21-inch forged wheels, wider flares, a rear diffuser and a carbon fibre aerodynamic kit. Ten-spoke wheels and painted claws on the wing mirrors further compliment this special edition LC that鈥檚 not available for purchase, therefore it鈥檚 unlikely you鈥檒l ever see one in public. Which car are you most looking forward to seeing at SEMA 2017?

Dino Zamparelli and Chris Car are set to make their British GT Championship debut this season, driving a GT Marques-run brand-new Cayman GT4 Clubsport, the first new Porsche GT4 to be confirmed for UK competition. 鈥淚 am very excited to be competing in British GT 2019,鈥?said Car. 鈥淚 have long wished to take part in GT endurance racing, and I think British GT is the best platform to do this in the UK. What has made this proposition so exciting, and convinced me to take this step, is to be teaming up with Dino and having him as a co-driver as his speed and success is second to none. 鈥淗aving Dino onboard in a Porsche GT4 run is too good an opportunity to turn down. I will draw motivation from Dino鈥檚 speed and commitment and hopefully be able to produce good results. 鈥淭his fantastic package is enhanced by racing the new for 2019 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport. 鈥淚 am really excited to be entering into a new chapter in my career and moving into British GT in a Porsche Cayman with Chris,鈥?said Dino. 鈥淭he Championship is the premier GT racing category in the UK and always provides close racing. I know that my job will be to help Chris be as fast as possible and I believe we will be right where we want to be when the first round of races arrive.

Mercedes-Benz keeps expanding its most compact model line - and this is the latest. It鈥檚 the new A-Class sedan, and it鈥檚 running full-speed ahead to the North American market. Previously revealed in long-wheelbase form for the Chinese market and as a hatchback for Europe, the new standard-wheelbase A-Class sedan sits alongside the CLA four-door coupe and underneath the larger C-Class sedan. It鈥檚 the Silver Star automaker鈥檚 rival to the Audi A3 that was similarly be-trunked with US customers in mind, and boasts a rather slippery shape to cheat the wind of its aerodynamic drag. At 4,549 mm long and riding on a 2,729-mm wheelbase, the standard-wheelbase model is 60 mm shorter than the version being made in China - but it still packs everything that Daimler could throw at it. Powertrain options are market-dependent. In the US, the sedan will come in A220 guise with a 2.0-liter turbo four producing 188 hp and 300 Nm of torque, mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and available in either front- or all-wheel drive. Elsewhere it鈥檒l be offered as the A200 with 163 hp and 250 Nm or the A180d with 116 hp and 260 Nm. It鈥檒l also be produced in different locations for different markets. The North American version will be built at the COMPAS plant that Daimler built together with the Renault-Nissan Alliance in Aguascalientes, Mexico. European examples will be made alongside the hatchback in Rastatt, Germany. And the long-wheelbase version for China is being built by joint venture with BAIC in Beijing. Following its world premiere today in Brooklyn, we鈥檙e told to expect the first examples to start showing up in US showrooms later this year.

All New 2019 Volkswagen Jetta Redesign, Release Date And Price

Within German choices history the insignificant certainty that approaching develops more seasoned gathering connected with Volkswagen's conservative four home, in addition to Volkswagen Jetta 2018, about entire body mold, may be alluded to as. Roadster Sedan, and precisely how it might all around need more alluring variety extensively in contrast with may be the reality up to now. The convincing clarification thus improves can be the individual producer's ought to help the pay connect concerning the latest Jetta, which will, therefore, develop to be to a couple confirmation irritating sort as the trailblazers. Set only, this incredible plan can investigate certain likenesses since of the Brand-new Midsize Coupe technique. In particular, the most up and coming to 2018 Volkswagen Jetta within family unit ought to current figured for a comparable measure of the area since Toyota Avalon. Expanded cost contrasted with the woman's Jetta can make an occurrence identifying with well off furthermore prevalent establishment introduced the family unit.

Uncommon interest may be repaid that you can the standard connected to merchandise, data great quality in addition to tones diminish, which regularly gives you an enhanced moreover a great deal more agreeable create. The stove connected with gear, a few fills additionally a few sorts of diesel in addition to these sorts of with vigorous hypodermic infusions in addition to the turbocharger. Standard fuel 1. 3 TSI, just attributes eight valves, furthermore advancements 105 Hewlett Packard furthermore 175 Nm. Guarantees some accuse associated of 2 one hundred km/h speeding that you can see miles every hour within 11 a modest bunch of occurrences, through a consistent utilization of 5. 3 liters. As pleasantly as the individual 1. some TSI notwithstanding 122 in addition to 160 Hewlett-Packard, furthermore on best of the 2. TSI alongside 2 one hundred hp. As successfully as the advanced commercial center pretty much the most rejuvenating turbo diesel 1. 6 TDI alongside 105 hp will no doubt be offered furthermore 3. TDI together with a 100 40 Hewlett Packard.

While it can鈥檛 match the V60鈥檚 level of compliance, the Avant isn鈥檛 rock solid, and it takes most roads in its stride. The A4鈥檚 gearbox isn鈥檛 as smooth at low speed and around town, because the clutches cutting in and out make manoeuvring a little more jerky and disjointed. Once under way, the shifts are quick and seamless. However, there was little to split the performance of these two cars at our test track. Both accelerated from 0-60mph in 8.1 seconds, but the Audi鈥檚 sharper-shifting transmission meant it was one tenth faster from 30 to 70mph through the gears, taking 7.1 seconds. It was also a few tenths faster in the lower ratios between 30 and 50mph, but a few tenths slower in the higher gears between 50 and 70mph, with the differences between the cars鈥?seven and eight-speed transmissions explaining this. Testers鈥?notes: 鈥淵ou can upgrade the A4鈥檚 fuel tank from 40 to 54 litres for free. There鈥檚 little to split these two cars, but while the Volvo might cost a little more to buy and run, it鈥檚 the more comfortable, more spacious and more hi-tech model.

This is what a premium family estate should deliver, and the V60 nails this convincingly. Just a few issues (it lacks some connectivity as standard, for example) hold the model back from the full five stars. The A4 Avant is an extremely competent premium and practical family wagon. It offers lots of space, enough comfort and is the better machine to drive, while quality is easily on par with the V60. Yet it can鈥檛 quite match the Volvo for usability and much of the technology that makes it so appealing is optional, even if it will be marginally cheaper to run than the Swedish car. There鈥檚 a new C-Class Estate to fight the V60 with updated infotainment and new engines. The 191bhp 2.0-litre C 220 d is well priced, at 拢38,835 in top-spec AMG Line trim. But the 460-litre boot looks small by comparison. Before the new 3 Series Touring goes on sale next year, now is a great time to pick up a deal on the outgoing car. The sweet spot is 320d M Sport auto spec. It鈥檚 even better to drive than the Audi, even if it鈥檚 slightly less practical.

Accordingly, for example, when the car is at risk of a collision, a large warning symbol is displayed. Relevant symbols are displayed for incoming calls or when voice commands are activated. With the new Offroad Precision app, Porsche gives the Cayenne driver the opportunity to document, evaluate and improve their trips on terrain. The 'Trip' section works in a similar way to popular running apps for mobile phones. If recording is activated, all relevant data is collected automatically: driver, car, route, times and GPS data. These are used to automatically create route and elevation profiles that can later be viewed on a map. At the same time, the journey can be recorded in its entirety as a video, using either a smartphone or an externally controlled action cam. The smartphone's 'sharing' function allows the trips to be shared on social networks. In the app mode 'Personal progress', the driver's individual performance is assessed with a bonus system. The app also provides the offroad newbie with sound basic knowledge explaining how to get around in a Cayenne on terrain.

Petrol Engine To Be Added To Volkswagen Touareg Range

The Volkswagen Touareg SUV鈥檚 engine lineup is set to expand soon with the introduction of a new petrol engine. Like the diesel alternatives, the new model will send its power through all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. A package which combines air suspension and rear-wheel steering - as used by VW Group cousins the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga - is available as an option. The Touareg is offered in three trim levels: SE L, R-Line and R-Line tech. Standard equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, heated front seats trimmed in leather all round, and adaptive cruise control. The 鈥業nnovision Cockpit鈥? which combines a 12-inch digital instrument panel with a huge 15-inch infotainment screen, is standard on the top-spec R-Line Tech and an option priced up to 拢2,510 on other models. The V6 petrol will go on sale in the first half of 2019, with deliveries due by the end of the year. While UK prices for the new petrol are yet to be announced, in the Dutch market VW has confirmed a starting figure of a few hundred Euros more than the 282bhp diesel, so expect to pay from around 拢52,000 here. Would you consider a petrol SUV?

Casual observers may not directly notice what seems to be a nip here and a tuck there, however the Forester faithful鈥攕ome eighty,000 some patrons annually within the U.S. 鈥攕hould be simpatico with the all-new sheetmetal. Well, tie your L.L. Bean Storm Chasers, as a result of Subaru is introducing a replacement, fourth-generation Forester early next year as a 2014 model. SEAT is very proud of its Spanish heritage, so much so that nearly every model in its current line-up is named after a town or area in Spain. The Ibiza, Leon, Arona, Ateca and Alhambra all follow this formula, and so does the latest addition to the Auto Express fleet, the Tarraco. Yet while the brand鈥檚 approach to its cars鈥?names is unique, the same can鈥檛 be said of the Tarraco itself. The large SUV shares many of its characteristics with the Skoda Kodiaq, sitting on the same version of the Volkswagen Group鈥檚 modular MQB platform and sharing the same range of engines. But that鈥檚 no bad thing because the Kodiaq scooped the Best Large SUV honour at our New Car Awards ceremony last year. Our Tarraco is an SE Technology model, which sits near the bottom of the range, with only the standard SE trim below it (Xcellence and Xcellence Lux sit above our car in the line-up).

That doesn鈥檛 mean it鈥檚 short of kit, though, because the focus on technology really shines through. Just like the Kodiaq, the Tarraco offers bags of space, with lots of storage and plenty of leg and headroom in the rear seats. Boot capacity stands at 1,775 litres with the rear two benches folded flat (just down on the Kodiaq鈥檚 cavernous 2,005 litres), while there is even a usable 230 litres available with the car set up as a seven-seater. Those sixth and seventh chairs don鈥檛 offer much legroom, though, and are only really suitable for kids. Adults will simply find it too uncomfortable to spend much time back there, and the seats are tough to clamber into. Where the Tarraco differs from the Kodiaq is in the way it drives. SEAT is well known for focusing on dynamics, and this SUV does not disappoint. Its sheer size means it has some limitations, but it feels controlled when turning sharply into corners and body roll is kept in check for the most part. The SE Technology鈥檚 smaller 18-inch wheels also provide a smooth ride and the car soaks up most road imperfections without flinching. The Tarraco鈥檚 engine line-up is standard VW Group fare. The power figure might seem low for such a big car, but it copes with the demands of daily life well. So far I鈥檝e used it around town and on some longer motorway journeys, and the engine never feels strained. In fact, the 340Nm of torque means it feels quite punchy when going for an overtake. A fully laden Tarraco might be a different story but, for most people, the lower-powered 2.0-litre diesel should be quick enough. Economy of 44.5mpg is also impressive for a 1,660kg car. I鈥檓 looking forward to seeing how it copes with the demands of day-to-day life. My young son likes to grab and pull at anything within reach, so he鈥檚 sure to be testing the car as much as I am in the coming months.

Audi has started testing the upcoming Q4 SUV on public roads. The spyshots themselves are edited with new backgrounds in order to not reveal the location of the shoot. Previously referred to as the TT SUV of the German brand, the new Q4 will be based on the same MQB platform as used in the latest Q3. The new SUV will adopt its own, more dynamic exterior design that will mix elements from both the Q3 and the larger Q8. A lower roofline combined with higher shoulders are the key differences, along with a front end that鈥檚 looks slightly more aggressive than the Q3. Audi鈥檚 exterior design chief said that the Q4 will be 鈥渁 bit more than a coupe version of the Q3鈥? without providing further details. The final production model is expected to measure at least 4,500 mm long, which will make the Q4 marginally longer than the Q3. Despite the lower roofline, cabin space is expected to be more generous than that of its closest rivals. The engine range will share some -if not all- of the powertrains currently on offer with the Audi Q3, meaning a wide range of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. Quattro all-wheel drive will be offered in the most powerful models, including a rumored RS Q4 model with a five-cylinder 400 hp powerplant.

BEST CAR REVIEW: 2019 Volkswagen Touareg

As the popularity of SUVs continues to grow, it seems that much of the original rugged off-road personality these models were known for has been bred out of the segment in favour of on-pavement comfort and drivability. Among luxury SUVs, that shift seems even more evident. The Volkswagen Touareg was one of the sport-utilities to cling to those off-road roots, but it's recently made the shift toward the everyday. It's hard to argue with the results, though. The first-generation Touareg was a capable model known for its high-class interior, off-road ability, and respectable towing capacity. But it was also heavy and knew little when it came to fuel economy. The current Volkswagen Touareg, which was first launched as the 2011 model, lacks off-road chops but is otherwise a superior SUV that's more in line with what consumers want from their modern SUV. The second generation model was recently updated to feature a more prominent face, more efficient engines, and a more luxurious interior.

The updated Volkswagen Touareg will be sold as a 2015 model. The front-end design of the 2015 Volkswagen Touareg is completely redeveloped. Especially distinctive are the headlights which are now larger; moreover, bi-xenon headlights are now standard on all versions of the Touareg. The trapezoid-shaped lights create a line towards the re-designed radiator grille in the middle of the SUV. In contrast to the previous model, the grille is trimmed with four transverse chrome fins instead of two. From the sides, the 2015 Volkswagen Touareg is distinguished by two new wheel designs. The 18-inch wheel of the new model generation is the "Arica" alloy wheel whose distinctive and sporty look includes ten spokes. The 20-inch "Masafi" alloy wheels, on the other hand, have five twin spokes. From the rear, the more precise styling of the 2015 Volkswagen Touareg is marked by its new, cleanly designed bumper, which - similar to the same area at the front end - emphasises the width of the SUV.

Integrated between the exhaust tailpipes is a diffuser that has also been redesigned. The LED rear fog lights are now located on the bumper, and also integrate the rear reflectors. The all-wheel drive 2015 Volkswagen Touareg is available as a model with a turbo diesel (V6 and V8 TDI), petrol (V6 and V8 FSI), and turbocharged petrol (V6 TSI). The petrol engines produce 213 kW / 285 hp, 235 kW / 315 hp for V6 TSI and while the V8 TSI churns out 265 kW / 355 hp. The TDI engines produce 150 kW / 201 hp, 190 kW / 254 hp and 250 kW / 335 hp. All engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. All engines have a stop-start system as standard. All 2015 Volkswagen Touareg have the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system and an off-road driving programme that is operated via a two-stage rotary switch. The system configures the ABS, EDS, and ASR systems for off-road use and activates hill climb assist and gearshift points of the automatic gearbox. The interior of the 2015 Volkswagen Touareg reflects an extraordinary alliance of rugged SUV elements and sophisticated premium-class elements. Also conspicuous is the white - rather than red - illumination of all controls. There are also chrome accents around the control panel modules and the running gear adjustment controls. A line-up of upholstery materials and wood accents are available for better interior customization. The interior is now more functional, the seats more comfortable and leg room in the rear is larger. The rear bench seat has 160 millimetres in longitudinal adjustment, and the backrest angle can be adjusted. The rear seats fold down in seconds to free up 1,642 litres of cargo space. Already standard equipment in the base version is a radio-CD and info system, which is intuitively controlled over a 6.5-inch touch-screen. The 2015 Volkswagen Touareg is now a more luxurious and striking SUV. Fuel economy has greatly improved and the list of standard features has been increased.

I know I'm not the first person to make this argument鈥攑eople have been saying the same thing since the Cayenne arrived on the scene in 2002 and quickly proved to be a hit. But, I think it bears repeating. What's a little less obvious is how the Macan injects Porsche values into what is, ultimately, a very mainstream car. You get the great steering, rock-solid brake-pedal feel, sharp chassis tuning, and best-in-class build quality that made us fall in love with Porsche in the first place. Porsche would probably sell a boatload of Macans even if it drove like every other luxury crossover. The fact that it doesn't means that the engineers and designers behind recognize and value of what made Porsche great. Driving the 2019 Macan was instructive鈥攏ot because the car is mind-blowing in any particular way, rather, because it was a reminder of how important this little SUV is. And for keeping the things we love about Porsche alive, it deserves our respect.

The rear has eye-catching LED tail-lamps running almost the whole width of the bootlid. Inside, the dash is modern and clutter free, while the 8.7-inch R-Link 2 Infotainment screen (an optional extra) groups together the sat-nav, driving modes and stereo controls in one clear display. It鈥檚 behind the wheel where the Megane is most attractive though as even a short drive is enough to know the Renault engineers have focused on comfort and refinement. The car rides well, noise levels are low and the range of engines offer impressive power delivery - although lower-powered models can feel a little lethargic at lower revs. All in all the Megane is an impressive addition to this list and definitely worth considering. The Honda Civic has a history as long as the VW Golf, and over that time it has grown from a supermini to a full-size hatch. The latest model is the tenth generation, and it features arguably the most radical looks yet, and that's saying something after the space age Mk8. There's almost a coupe-like profile to the car, while the angular panels mean the Civic still stands alone in the hatch class with its unique looks.

Volkswagen New 2.0 TDI Diesel With Mild Hybrid Tech

The word 鈥榙iesel鈥?is probably taboo at Volkswagen, and for good reasons, as the cheating emissions scandal is still fresh. However, the automaker won鈥檛 let oil burners die just yet. In fact, they have presented their first-ever 2.0-liter TDI with a mild hybrid system. Detailed during the Vienna Motor Symposium, the powertrain will eventually make it into series production. The EA288 Evo, has a 12V belt starter-generator and a lithium-ion battery. This 鈥渞educes fuel consumption and increases comfort鈥? according to Volkswagen, which adds that the SCR components and diesel particulate filter have been re-dimensioned and improved. Also, the turbocharger now responds quicker, but, more importantly, the CO2 emissions have dropped by up to 10 g/km compared to the previous generation. Volkswagen hasn鈥檛 cut down on power; in fact, this has increased by up to 9 percent. The output of the mild hybrid 2.0 TDI ranges between 136 PS and 204 PS. And that鈥檚 not all, because engineers managed to reduce frictional and heat losses and to shave some weight from the engine. Audi will be the first brand within the Volkswagen Group to get the reworked four-cylinder diesel. The automaker will use it in vehicles with longitudinally installed drivetrains, but it will eventually be adopted by other brands and be mounted transversely in some models underpinned by the MQB platform.

So if your Porsche gets stolen and hidden in a freighter bound for Africa, Scotland Yard can track it for you. There鈥檚 a lot of expensive available equipment and features for each model. For example, there鈥檚 a 16-speaker, 1000-watt Burmester sound system. The Macan is smaller than the Cayenne crossover, and we think it鈥檚 even better looking. The roof has a more athletic slope, and the sculpting is smoother. The front air intakes scale down nicely, and the hood drapes over the front corners to make the big 19-inch wheels look clean. The tail is also tidy, with LED taillamps snug against the wraparound gate. The Macan barrages you with switches, buttons, knobs, and rockers, more than two dozen of them on the center console, split by the shift lever. But if you imagine you鈥檙e a fighter jet pilot, it鈥檚 cool. And the alternative could be incomprehensible screens. The console divides the driver from the passenger and reaches the dash just beneath a bright LCD touchscreen, with a high-resolution screen in the instrument cluster serving as a redundant display.

The trim depends on the model, from simple black and gray on the base, to piano black, to aluminum or carbon fiber or dark walnut. Porsche鈥檚 custom list can wear you out with decisions to make, with almost anything available to be painted, stitched, or trimmed to your liking. The optional front seats are exceptionally supportive, as they should be with 18 ways to support you. Thick lumbar and side bolstering, with cooling as well as heating. The Macan can鈥檛 match the Cayenne in rear headroom and kneeroom. The bottom cushion is low and short, so the rear passengers鈥?knees might hit the front seatbacks; and the sunroof drops the headliner down on the heads of those passengers. The bench folds 40/20/40, so that skinny middle can fold down and into an armrest, which helps. With the rear seat up, there鈥檚 17.7 cubic feet of space, as big as a sedan鈥檚 trunk; and with it folded, the cargo space hits 53 cubic feet.

There鈥檚 storage below the cargo floor, as well. There鈥檚 a power liftgate, and to further aid loading things, get the available air suspension that lowers the car two inches. The impressive 273 pound-feet of torque in the 2.0-liter engine comes on at 1600 rpm and lasts until 4500 rpm. And zero to sixty in 6.1 seconds is good, maybe not Porsche great, but okay. The Macan S gets 339 pound-feet of torque from its 3.0-liter V6. For this model, and the others, there鈥檚 an available Sport Chrono package that brings quicker throttle response and transmission shifts, not that the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission dithers. The Macan GTS raises the horsepower of the S from 340 to 360. As for the Turbo, the larger 3.6-liter engine brings 400 horsepower and a massive 406 pound-feet of torque. The base Macan handles beautifully, responsive and brisk into corners, and powering out of them with a touch of torque to the outside rear wheel.

New Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR 2019 Review

Motorsport tie-ins are commonplace in the performance car world. Some have worked better than others: the brilliant Mitsubishi Evo VI Makinen Edition is revered by enthusiasts in a way that a Fiat Seicento with Michael Schumacher鈥檚 name scrawled along its sides, to be blunt, is not. Volkswagen is the latest brand to get in on the act with the GTI TCR. Those three letters, new to a VW road car, stand for Touring Car Racing - a motorsport series in which the Golf GTI has scooped numerous driver and team鈥檚 titles across a range of national and international championships. They鈥檙e also attached to a car that can be considered a final flourish for the Mk7.5 Golf GTI before the new eighth-gen version appears later this year. So where does the TCR rank among the road racing specials, Golf GTIs and - perhaps most importantly - its current rivals? As a category from which to draw a connection from race to road, TCR makes plenty of sense. To keep costs at a sensible level, roughly 60-65 per cent of the racer鈥檚 parts are lifted directly from the road cars, and the engine is arguably the most significant of all.

Of course, the race car engineers are allowed software, cooling and intake/exhaust tweaks to eke more power from the Golf鈥檚 2.0-litre turbocharged EA888 unit, but the main block and internals are close to identical. Even the standard 7-speed DSG gearbox is used by some teams, as the rules allow a small weight break over the alternative race-spec sequential. For the road-going TCR, the overall output stands at 286bhp and 380Nm of torque. The suspension and brakes are more focussed than in the existing GTI Performance, too. The TCR sits 5mm closer to the ground than the Performance, and the steering calibration has been refined to produce sharper turn-in and a more progressive feel. The brakes match the spec of those used by the limited-run Clubsport S: the drilled steel discs feature alloy centres to reduce rotating masses, and they鈥檙e gripped by heavier-duty pads. A couple of option packs add further focus. The first adds 19-inch wheels in place of the standard 18-inch items and adaptive dampers, which at the back gain a more aggressive tune regardless of driving mode. The second package adds lighter 19-inch wheels wrapped in super-sticky Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tyres.

All TCRs feature the same locking differential as the existing GTI. These changes all join forces to make the TCR a devastatingly quick on track. The cars we sampled around Portimao Circuit were equipped with the grippier Cup 2 tyres, and they deliver a huge amount of grip. It鈥檚 most noticeable on corner exit: where many rivals would be scrabbling for grip, the mix of tyres and that differential sling you out of each second gear turn with no drama. It鈥檚 not as playful as the Honda Civic Type R, but it鈥檚 incredibly effective. Out on the road - and on more road-biased tyres - the TCR is just as impressive. While much of the Portuguese test route covered smooth tarmac, what few bumps cropped up revealed a ride that, though firm, could never be described as uncomfortable. Switch the driving mode to Sport and the adaptive dampers tense up yet remain compliant, producing comfort that鈥檚 more than adequate - enthusiastic cornering still causes the dampers to stiffen up, delivering excellent body control. The only gripe, and it鈥檒l be a big one for some, is the lack of a manual gearbox.

Yes, the DSG shifts quickly when you鈥檙e pressing on, but it lacks the satisfaction of a well-timed heel-and-toe downshift that makes most hot hatches so engaging. Still, it鈥檚 one of the things that makes the TCR easy to live with, a quality that鈥檚 also helped by the huge range of adjustment for the seat and the steering wheel plus a generous kit list. Front assist, VW鈥檚 digital instruments and LED headlights are all standard. To hint at its extra ability, the GTI TCR gets a few cosmetic tweaks that separate it from the Performance. On the outside, this means a deeper front splitter, lower side sills, and an aggressive rear diffuser and wing. Special TCR badging can be found along the car鈥檚 flanks, while unique honeycomb graphics, first seen on the TCR concept at the Worthersee festival in 2018, are optional. The same goes for carbon door mirror covers (black items are standard) and a contrasting black roof.

SEAT To Lead Volkswagen Group With Entry-level Electric Vehicles

SEAT will lead the Volkswagen Group project to develop an entry-level electric vehicle that can be sold for less than 20,000 euros (拢17,000), the company has announced. 鈥?Volkswagen's Polo-sized electric car to head up entry-level ID. The VW Group CEO Dr Herbert Diess added, 鈥淪EAT is a crucial building block for the future of the VW Group. It is a successful and important player again, based on close cooperation and synergies as well as joint technology and product development. The small electric platform is a great illustration of this. Diess鈥檚 comments would suggest that the VW Group is looking at a much more modest range for its MEB entry family than the conventional line-up, which will be launched with the ID. It鈥檚 conceivable that to keep the price at such a low level, MEB entry hatchbacks could have as little as 120 miles of range between charges. In a significant development, SEAT also confirmed that the next two Cupra models - the Formentor crossover and the Cupra edition of the next-gen Leon - will also feature plug-in electrification. SEAT confirmed at its press conference that it recorded strong sales in 2018 - the best performance in the company鈥檚 history. It made 294 million euros (拢251m) in profit last year, a rise of 4.6 per cent over 2017, and delivered 517,600 vehicles, a gain of more than 10 per cent from the previous year. What do you think of SEAT leading the way in entry-level electric vehicles?

An small influx of newer model Service Loaners perhaps could occur to help off-set inventory concerns. PCNA have no control over release dates of cars. Porsche has internal quotas to fill just like anyone else and things that hinder that process affect everyone, not just the consumer. I appreciate your reply. Although my experience with Porsche comes from only 2 911s and my order of a Macan S, the issue of manufacturer incentives are quite common in BMWs (owned 14 in the past) and Mercedes (owned 7 in the past). I am making an assumption that future allotments are based on meeting previous sales quotas. Older but new models need to be sold to provide relief from overhead in keeping them in inventory. Like any business, larger volumes of older products sold at smaller margins makes good financial sense to move any product to open financial opportunities for receiving newer products to be sold at higher margins. When I wrote of base Macans, I am speaking about Porsches bread and butter models that has kept this division of VW vibrant. This would not pertain to low volume, higher priced models. I wouldnt expect the 992, 718 or Taycans, whenever they are idelivered, to need dollar based incentives to maintain sales. Right: as I understand it, base Macans account for roughly 80% of Macan sales in the US (if not more). The Audi e-tron SUV that goes on sale next spring in the U.S. 鈥檛 just Audi鈥檚 first fully electric vehicle. It鈥檚 the luxury brand鈥檚 way of showing how an increasingly inevitable part of the future can fit right in and be a part of four-ring identity. In our first drive this week, we found the e-tron to be exactly that鈥攕imultaneously flaunting some daring, different engineering decisions under the surface but looking and feeling, at face value, to be a familiar, mainstream-luxury Audi. The e-tron appears, inside and out, as if it were a larger member of the allroad family, taller than Audi鈥檚 sedans but somewhat lower than its SUVs. It rides on a wheelbase that鈥檚 about halfway between the Q5 and Q7, and while it鈥檚 shorter than the Tesla Model X it鈥檚 about nine inches longer than the Jaguar I-Pace. Inside, the cabin borrows attributes from the brand鈥檚 latest A8 and A6 sedans, as well as the Q7 and Q8 SUVs. The seating position is rather high, but a beltline of distinctive trim鈥攐pen-pore ash wood in the vehicle we spent the most time with鈥攕eparates the dash and gives the front an airier feel and better vantage point.

2019 Volkswagen Golf R [Malaysia]

The model鈥檚 2.0 litre TSI engine has 290 PS at 5,500 to 6,500 rpm and 380 Nm from 2,000 to 5,400 rpm. The unit is paired with a seven-speed, wet dual-clutch DSG transmission, and power is applied to all four wheels via the automaker鈥檚 4Motion all-wheel drive system. Performance figures include a 0-100 km/h time of 5.1 seconds and an electronically-limited 250 km/h top speed. Inside, the car features Vienna R leather interior upholstery, an R sports steering wheel with paddle shifters, brushed stainless steel pedals and illuminated scuff plates. It also features a 9.2-inch touchscreen Discover Pro infotainment system with a gesture control function. Aside from an eight-speaker audio system, there鈥檚 a 10 GB jukebox on top of the usual connectivity features, which includes App-Connect, which offers smartphone screen mirroring functionality via Apple CarPlay, Android Auto or MirrorLink. Other items include park distance control and a rear-view camera. The R comes with front/rear fog lamps, driver profile selection, cruise control and automatic headlights/wipers and keyless access lock/start, among other things.Safety-wise, the car is equipped with seven airbags, ESC and a Proactive Occupant Protection System. Three colours are available for the Golf R, Lapiz Blue, Pure White and Deep Black.

The Evoque鈥檚 MHEV system uses a belt-integrated starter generator to cut the engine off completely below 11mph when the car is coming to a halt, and to help it get moving again from rest. It鈥檚 said to deliver between 20Nm and 30Nm of torque in most scenarios (although it can supply up to 100Nm), and as well as improving efficiency, saving up to 8g/km in CO2 emissions, it helps to reduce turbo lag. As we head into the hills near Welshpool, a couple of things are almost immediately evident. Firstly, there is a considerable step up in cabin quality, with our HSE鈥檚 Kvadrat wool-blend upholstery matched by acres of double-stitched, padded material across the dashboard and in the door liners. The twin-screen infotainment and car control system will be a quantum leap for Evoque owners, too, with a crisper resolution than before and quicker responses, not to mention added functionality and the likes of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The second thing that springs to mind is how quiet it is. When we suggest that even from the passenger seat, this already feels more like a true baby Range Rover than the old Evoque ever did, Cross smiles knowingly. 鈥淭hat was one of our real goals,鈥?he reveals. 鈥淚t鈥檚 getting harder and harder to drive quickly, and it鈥檚 becoming less and less socially acceptable anyway. So what we think customers wanted with this car was more luxury, more comfort, more connectivity. We worked as hard on wind-noise isolation as we did on powertrain refinement.鈥?That鈥檚 an oblique reference to the Audi Q5, which insiders suggest was the main benchmark, ahead of the BMW X3 and Porsche Macan. Cross explains our car has continuously variable dampers - an option across the range, unless you go for the largest 21-inch rims, at which point they become compulsory. But even so, there鈥檚 compliance over rippled and broken surfaces.

We鈥檇 probably settle for the look of 19-inch wheels in return for a teeny bit more tolerance over big potholes, but image-focused Evoque buyers will be gifted more comfort on the larger alloys than they鈥檝e experienced previously. The roads get quieter as we head into the wilds of Wales and Cross begins to show off the Evoque鈥檚 capability when the speeds rise. This car has Active Driveline - a similar system to that offered on the Jaguar E-Pace and Ford Focus RS, which uses a rear-mounted double-clutch to offer torque vectoring on the rear axle, helping turn-in. But with Cross at the wheel, and even on sinuous Welsh B-roads, there鈥檚 no drama; progress is rapid, but serene. And that鈥檚 the same in Dynamic mode, which delivers added punch in throttle responses, pushing more torque towards the rear and tightening up body control. But it never comes close to making Cross look like he鈥檚 hustling along a hot hatch. Would it be fair, we ask, to say an E-Pace would be dancing around a bit more along the same route? 鈥淧robably a little,鈥?Cross replies. It鈥檚 genuinely hard to feel the mild-hybrid tech doing its work from the passenger seat, and Cross says it鈥檚 not much more evident from behind the wheel. Even so, this is far from the cleanest new Evoque. You鈥檒l need a diesel example (鈥淭ry the mid-spec one; it鈥檚 plenty quick enough,鈥?Cross suggests) if you want to dip under 150g/km of CO2 emissions. Market forces and possibly legislation will determine if Land Rover鈥檚 engineers have succeeded in making the Evoque more environmentally acceptable, while retaining off-road capability that is authentic, even if it鈥檚 rarely used. But on the basis of this short exposure to the Mk2 Evoque, this already feels like a car that delivers where it counts.

One of only 1023 produced Carreras for the European market. These cars are not to be confused with the US spec Carreras of 74 & 75, as they carry the iconic RS motor (type 911-83) of the 73 Carrera RS from the factory. These cars are very rare and come to market rarely, especially in the US. Weighing in at 1075kg (2365lbs) the performance envelope is just like that of an RS Touring model. This particular car was sold new to Italy and is fully numbers matching. It comes with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity issued in Italy. It was sold from Italy to Great Britain in 2007 and eventually found its way to a collector here in the Midwest. The car was recently taken to bare metal and re-sprayed to its authentic grand prix white. The wheels, undercarriage, brakes and engine are fully sorted and detailed and in wonderful shape. While not freshly rebuilt, the engine is in tip top condition with excellent leak down and compression numbers and no oil leaks.

All New Volkswagen Bora

The very first photos of the all-new Volkswagen Bora sedan for China. It stands on the same MQB platform, and is almost exactly the same size, as the new Volkswagen Lavida Plus. The bora is made in China by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. New Bora: 4663/1815/1473 mm, and wheelbase is 2688 mm. Lavida Plus: 4670/1806/1474 mm, and wheelbase is 2688 mm. Current Bora: 4562/1739/1468 mm, and wheelbase is 2614 mm. Design is a huge improvement over the current car, which had been facelifted so many times it had become faceless. The new Bora looks modern, clean, and even a bit sporty. Volkswagen will not put any new engines under the bonnet. The 1.5 gets six horses more for 116, and the 1.4 turbo remains at 150. This non-TSI turbo engine has been used by Volkswagen in China for almost ten years now. Gearboxes are unchanged as well: a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT, but the old 5-speed manual has been deleted. Even more strangely; the 5-speed has not been deleted for the Lavida Plus. The new Volkswagen Bora will hit the Chinese car market in September. Price will start around 115.000 yuan. The current Bora will continue until then, and probably a little bit longer.

This freed up its engineers to work on future road car engines for Jaguar. In March 1965 Motor Sport correspondent Denis Jenkinson took deliver of a Carmen red FHC, FPL 660C, a 4.2-litre E-type. Having test driven the new improved 4.2-litre E-type, and been impressed by the revised car, Denis Jenkinson took the plunge and ordered one. He related: 鈥楢s soon as I had the car I had gone over it with a set of spanners, tweaking everything up just that little bit tighter than it had been done in the factory. While all this was going on, Denis Jenkinson was acquainting himself with his new E-type. This was of course in the era before speed limits were imposed on motorists and before the 1973 oil crisis. Jenkinson continued, 鈥楾he next trip was a bit more serious, for it was straight down to Sicily, putting in an easy 500-600 miles a day. The ride and comfort of the E-type was first class, the seats came up to all the claims made by Jaguar when they were introduced. Back in the UK the government had decided to crack down on this type of high speed motoring.

On 24th November 1965, the British government imposed a 70mph speed limit, initially for four months, but now in force for over 40 years. Still this did not affect 鈥楯enks鈥?on the continent. 鈥楢 pretty regular trip was down the Autostrada from Milan to Modena, the home of Maserati and Ferrari among lots of other things. 2 E-type was announced. Right from the E-type鈥檚 earliest days, Sir William Lyons had demanded more room inside, and after a five-year gestation period, the finished article appeared. 2 also featured a taller windscreen, longer doors and room in the back for two children. It was also available with a three speed Borg-Warner model 8 automatic transmission. The style was penned by Bob Blake. 2 was the first alteration to the E-type鈥檚 form, and although stylistically it was less of a success, from a business point of view it made perfect sense. 2 proving to be the most popular model.

2 FHC automatic. Top speed was 136.2mph and its 0-60mph time was 8.9seconds. Autocar, meanwhile, tested a manual version and reached a terminal velocity of 139mph and and completed the 0-60mph dash in 7.4 seconds. On 11 July 1966, Jaguar and the British Motor Corporation announced they were merging to form British Motor Holdings. Effectively a takeover of Jaguar, but allowing Sir William Lyons to maintain control of his company. With two brilliant engineering teams headed by William Heynes and Sir Alec Issigonis, how could they fail? 2 E-type seemed to point the way to the future for the Jaguar sports car. Behind the scenes, Jaguar worked on its 60-degree modular V8 and V12 engines with communized parts. These were intended for a new generation of cars including the XJ21 project, which was the planned E-type replacement. 2. Jaguar was also looking at developing a smaller sports car using the 2.5-litre Daimler V8, a 3-litre XK engine, or the in-development 3.5-litre V8. The company was certainly ambitious, but its financial resources made such goals unobtainable.

New Volkswagen I.D. Buggy Concept Revealed Ahead Of Geneva Debut

Volkswagen's unrelenting onslaught of electric vehicle releases continues with the announcement of a new EV dune buggy concept. Like the I.D. Buzz, the new car, expected to be called I.D. Buggy, takes inspiration from a past icon in VW鈥檚 history: the Beetle-based beach buggies of the 鈥?0s and 鈥?0s. The concept is set to be revealed in full at the Geneva Motor Show in March, with only a couple of dark teaser images to whet our appetite until then. The nods to the original are clear though: chunky, off-road tyres sit within huge wheel arches that flare out from the sides of the doorless cabin. As with other I.D. Volkswagen logo, while the headlights take inspiration from the round spotlights of the original. Extra protection for the buggy and its occupants come in the form of a rear roll bar and a skid plate to shield the floor pan. That floorpan is a variation of the VW Group's MEB platform, and the concept has been produced, in part, to demonstrate its versatility. While the original buggies were rear-engined and rear-wheel drive, the concept鈥檚 use of electric motors would enable the possibility of a twin-motor setup for four wheel drive. As yet, however, no specs about the concept鈥檚 drive configuration, range or power output have been released.

One of the primary criticisms leveled against the Mazda CX-9 -- at least, when compared against other fullsize SUVs -- was just how far behind the curve its cabin design had fallen. This was mostly a function of age, as the harder plastics and more basic infotainment technologies employed by the CX-9 were well in keeping with a snapshot of the industry in the mid-2000s when it first appeared on the scene. All that has changed with the 2016 Mazda CX-9, which gains a passenger compartment that is every bit the equal (and in some cases, the better), of class leaders from Ford, Toyota, and Honda. In addition to the expected fabric seats and modestly-appointed interiors available with entry-level models, Mazda has finally embarked on a re-think of what the brand traditionally has offered in terms of materials quality, fit, and finish. In addition to the availability of two different Mazda Connect touchscreen infotainment systems, the CX-9 features genuine wood trim, Nappa leather, and elegantly-styled door panels, dashboards, and center consoles as part of Mazda's new design vocabulary.

The 2016 Mazda CX-9 can accommodate as many as seven passengers across three rows of seating, but in a refreshingly honest appraisal of the SUV's capabilities, its designers acknowledge that the rearmost quarters are best enjoyed by young children. The front buckets have undergone a scalloping at the back to reduce intrusion on the knees of riders, and the extended wheelbase has contributed to an overall improvement in comfort for those behind the first two positions. It's also worth noting that the Mazda CX-9 is remarkably quiet inside for a non-premium vehicle, the result of a concerted effort to improve sound deadening throughout the SUV. Mechanically, the most notable change made to the 2016 Mazda CX-9 is the shift from a naturally-aspirated V6 to a turbocharged 4-cylinder motor. It's a sign of the times when even large SUVs are slicing engine sizes in half and turning to turbos to best balance fuel efficiency and output. The 2.5-liter unit found in the CX-9 is unique for a number of reasons, not the least of which being its relatively high compression ratio and ability to produce maximum torque almost right off of the line.

Of the 310 lb-ft of twist offered by the 2.5-liter turbo, all of it is available below 2,000 rpm. Horsepower runs from 227 (87 octane gas) to 250 (91 octane), and Mazda has tuned the engine to maximize passing power while minimizing downshifts from its 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2016 Mazda CX-9 sees its fuel economy climb to 22 mpg in city driving and 28 mpg on the highway when ordered in front-wheel drive trim (all-wheel drive models deduct a single mile per gallon from each respective measure). Mazda is claiming best-in-class status for the hauler, with the closest similarly-sized SUV, the Honda Pilot, posting 20 mpg city and 27 mpg combined. Of note is Mazda's confidence that, unlike other turbocharged engines that tend to guzzle at an accelerated rate when called upon to hustle, the 2.5-liter turbo is more likely to match its EPA estimates in real-world driving. Mazda's never been here before -- at least not in North America -- but you wouldn't know it from the inside of the CX-9 Signature. The 2016 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring also happens to offer a comprehensive suite of advanced safety features.

My dad's words hung in the air like the few stray puffs of exhaust trailing in my wake as I motored away from him following a nice dinner. His parting statement to me really summed up the experience of driving this Chile Red Range Rover Sport. This is a vehicle unlike anything else Land Rover has ever built - and it needs to be. The Sport has been the British marque's best-selling vehicle since it went on sale in 2005 - even in its predecessor's final full year of sales, 2012, it still netted a four-percent bump. That kind of staying power needs to be preserved. Doing that would be difficult, though, as Land Rover launched a pair of particularly notable products before it was time to redesign the Sport. By now, you have a fair idea of how Land Rover has done. Senior Editor Steven Ewing's initial foray witha right-hand-drive Sport in Wales was overwhelmingly positive in both on and off-road testing.

Land Rover continues to offer its phenomenal 5.0-liter, supercharged V8 in the 2014 Range Rover Sport. Like the previous model, Land Rover continues to offer its phenomenal 5.0-liter, supercharged V8 in the 2014 Range Rover Sport. A completely unnecessary but wholly gratifying 510 horsepower can be called up, along with 461 pound-feet of torque. Unlike the old Sport, whose engine was mated to a six-speed automatic, ZF's stellar eight-speed automatic distributes power. This paddle-shifted automatic doles out the grunt to all four wheels via a permanent four-wheel-drive system, which in my tester benefits from both an electronically locking center and rear differential. The two diffs can be locked and unlocked automagically, in turn, by Land Rover's second-generation Terrain Response system. This latter serves as the nerve center of the Rover's off-roading systems, and offers drivers seven preset modes in my Supercharged model: Auto, General, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl and Dynamic (the latter setting isn't available on V6 models).

No Plans For Affordable Electric Volkswagen ID. Rival From Skoda

Skoda has yet to commit to a more affordable electric car that could sit alongside the Volkswagen ID. SEAT el-Born in the forthcoming range of MEB models, the CEO has admitted. The Czech manufacturer will launch its first vehicle based on the MEB all-electric platform next year. A production version of the Vision iV large SUV coupe, built on the longer MEB wheelbase shared with the likes of the VW ID. Crozz, it will be built on the same line as the Octavia at Skoda鈥檚 home factory in Mlada Boleslav. 鈥淲e have two MEB cars coming. One is the basis and the other is the derivative of that first model,鈥?Maier said. These cars are understood to be the Vision iV coupe and a regular SUV with a more conventional roofline. However, Maier said Skoda is 鈥渟till working on鈥?the idea of a more affordable MEB model - in the same way as VW鈥檚 stated goal of selling the entry-level ID. Golf. 鈥淭his platform is really multi-functional. It is usable for different car sizes and different car segments,鈥?Maier said. 鈥淲e are looking for a lower-specced car as well. He added, 鈥淲e want to do a car like the ID. Born, but it has to be one step after the other. What do you think of Skoda's electric plans?

Our example insurance quotes demonstrated that the Golf will be the cheapest car to insure here. Our numbers show an annual premium of 拢416 for the 308, 拢510 for the Toyota and just 拢397 for the VW. Testers鈥?notes: 鈥淭he Peugeot鈥檚 EAT8 automatic gearbox is smooth, but it鈥檚 not as fast as the Golf鈥檚 dual-clutch unit. The Golf is a stand-out winner in the family hatchback class because it鈥檚 such a fine all-rounder. It鈥檚 comfortable, good to drive, practical and economical - all key areas for most buyers looking for this type of car. But its strengths go even further than that, because it鈥檚 also great value, has a superb infotainment system, is quiet, refined and roomy in the rear. It鈥檚 little wonder why the VW is one of Britain鈥檚 best-selling cars. For ride and handling, the Corolla is close to the best in class. The chassis is fun but comfortable, and while keen drivers will find the powertrain frustrating, it鈥檚 yet another improvement with greater refinement than before. If relaxation is a priority and you want to maximise economy, the Toyota is a top choice, and while Excel trim is pricey, low running costs mean it鈥檚 a better pick for many buyers, despite poor infotainment tech. The 308 drops behind its rivals because of its slightly lumpy ride and poorer economy. It鈥檚 well equipped and has the biggest boot here, but it鈥檚 not an order of magnitude more practical than the others, plus other foibles such as quality, the driving position and infotainment hobble it. There are positives, though, including its entertaining, punchy engine, smooth gearbox and decent refinement. Mazda's new 3 will offer clever tech called SkyActiv-X that promises diesel-like running costs from a petrol engine. For now, only a mild-hybrid petrol is available, although our early impressions were positive.

With how little room they have, backseat passengers may not be as happy to spend long drives in the Macan. There鈥檚 a big hump in the middle of the floor, and the panoramic roof cuts headroom. At 6 feet tall, I felt shoehorned into the backseat. There鈥檚 significantly more room in the larger X6 and GLE450 AMG, which you can compare with the Macan here. Another signature Porsche interior characteristic is a massive center console littered with buttons 鈥?not only for typical controls such as Sport mode or heated seats, but also independent buttons for each available airflow direction for the climate system. It鈥檚 actually not a bad setup. I acclimated to the layout quickly and appreciated having buttons at my fingertips for functions that are normally hidden within layers upon layers of touch-screen menus. The Porsche Macan鈥檚 standard multimedia system features a 7-inch touch-screen and 70-plus physical buttons that litter the interior.

2,990 Infotainment Package. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto aren鈥檛 available on the 2016 Macan, but CarPlay will debut on the 2017 Macan GTS. Other options include just about everything under the sun 鈥?including a fire extinguisher and two optional stereos. The standard 11-speaker stereo features a USB input with iPod connectivity. 5,690. The mid-level Bose is decent enough but doesn鈥檛 stand out in any particular way for its hefty price. The small-interior theme continues in cargo and storage space. A center console overrun with buttons doesn鈥檛 leave room for extra storage, and there are just two cupholders and a small, square-shaped, shallow storage bin under the center armrest. The BMW X4 and X6 at least provide a nifty sliding cover over their cupholders to store loose items, and the GLE-Class coupe has a separate cubby area for phones and other items. Luggage space behind the Porsche Macan鈥檚 40/20/40-split folding backseat is a small 17.7 cubic feet that鈥檚 deep but narrow, and the aggressively sloped roofline doesn鈥檛 provide much room for taller objects.

Cargo space is more similar to a Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class (17.2 cubic feet) or BMW X4 (17.7 cubic feet) than to the roomier X6 (26.6 cubic feet) or GLE-Class coupe (23 cubic feet). The Porsche Macan had not been crash-tested as of publication. Available safety systems include blind spot monitoring, called Lane Change Assist, and Lane Keeping Assist, which automatically nudges the vehicle after it veers from a lane. A backup camera is also optional and comes with front and rear parking sensors. Also cryptically named, Porsche Active Safe is the Macan鈥檚 forward collision warning system with autonomous braking. 1,440. See all the Macan鈥檚 safety features here, and check out how well child-safety seats fit in the Macan in the Car Seat Check. The Porsche Macan鈥檚 combination of small size, high price, sports-car-like handling and luxurious interior make it a genuinely unique compact luxury SUV. The bulk of Macans in Cars.com鈥檚 national inventory are more expensive than similarly sized X4s or Evoques. 42,470. At that price, though, you get only 240 hp, making it far less of a performance buy. 66,025) as closer competitors, considering the cost to get into one is closer to what it will likely take to buy a Macan. The Porsche Macan S is at a size disadvantage compared with the GLE450 and the X6 in terms of both cargo space and backseat room, but it manages to not feel overpriced for its small size. 69,455, wasn鈥檛 offensive given its impressive quality, performance and distinctive Porsche flair. Year-end sales placed the Porsche Macan as the No. 2 best-selling model in Porsche鈥檚 lineup for 2015, behind the Cayenne SUV. We will see what 2017 brings with the added Macan GTS.

Volkswagen Group Diesel Scrappage Schemes Announced

The Volkswagen Group has unveiled UK scrappage schemes for all of its mass-market brands, designed to get customers into newer, less polluting cars and out of older cars from the Euro 1-4 classifications. The schemes cover the Volkswagen and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brands, as well as Audi, Seat and Skoda. Larger discounts for the brand鈥檚 electrified models can also be combined with the Government鈥檚 grant for low-emission vehicles. A 拢5500 scrappage scheme discount combined with the Government鈥檚 拢4500 OLEV grant can result in a total saving of 拢10,000 on an e-Golf. Adding in the 拢2500 Government grant for plug-in hybrids, the Golf GTE can have 拢7500 off and the Passat GTE 拢8500 off. Any car in the VW range, aside from the Touareg, is eligible for discount, regardless of whether it鈥檚 petrol or diesel-powered, hybrid or fully electric. VW says the scheme is being introduced to encourage the uptake of lower-emission vehicles, including hybrids and full electric cars.

Audi's scrappage scheme offers between 拢2000 and 拢8000 off its range - the smallest 拢2000 saving applied to the Q2 and the largest 拢8000 saving offered on its Q7 e-tron plug-in hybrid. The A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid has a 拢5000 discount applied, which combined with the Government's grant for low emission vehicles, is boosted to 拢7500. The new A8, R8 and sporting RS cars are not included in the scheme. Discounts of between 拢1500 and 拢4000 are available on the Skoda range, although the Kodiaq is not included in the offer. A similar strategy is offered by Seat, with the smallest 拢1500 discount applied to the Mii, and 拢3500 discount applied to the Leon; the Ateca is not included. Skoda's largest 拢4000 saving is for the Superb. Across all five scrappage schemes, cars of any brand can be traded in, although they must be diesel models and must have been registered before 2010 with pre-Euro 5 emissions classification. The car must have been kept by the owner for at least six months. The traded-in car will be scrapped under the scheme and no cars will be sold on. Other brands have pledged that valuable cars may not be scrapped and, in some schemes, Euro 4 cars are sold on.

The virtual CD comprises a hard drive which can store the equivalent of up to 10 Audio CDs identifiable using Gracenote. Three stunning new colours are added to the Freelander range, Aintree Green, Havana and Mauritius Blue, whilst an additional all new 17-inch alloy wheel design becomes available as an option at entry-level. Exteriors gain a number of new integrated design features resulting in a co-ordinated and premium appearance. Boasting the latest in Xenon LED technology, the front and rear lamps have been revamped giving the Freelander 2 a sportier yet purposeful new look, set off with a new signature graphic in the front running lights. The grille and fog lamp bezels now sport a bright finish and there are paint detailing changes to the front grille surround, insert bars and fender vent to harmonise the different elements. With this generation of Freelander 2, models are simply differentiated by trim level and not by powertrain specification. Entry level to the range is the Freelander S with cloth seats as standard.

Meridian sound system. The Dynamic version based on the SE, has gloss black fender vents and grille bars with black grille surround, complemented on the interior with three colourway choices of sport-themed electric leather seats. Top of the range is the HSE with a grained leather and wood interior as standard. There's the option of 19-inch Diamond Turned wheels and Grand Black Lacquer finisher and also Windsor leather seats with premium carpet mats for that extra special touch. The new 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine joins the Freelander 2 line-up, reducing CO2 emissions by 14 percent compared to the outgoing Si6 engine. Powering the Freelander 2 GTDi, the new direct injection, turbocharged Si4 engine now delivers 240PS and an increase of seven percent on torque to 340Nm, providing a broader spread of torque for relaxed cruising and strong low-speed response. The all-aluminium engine is a full 40kg lighter than the previous six-cylinder and returns a competitive 224g/km CO2 while meeting the stringent EU5 emissions regulations. The Si4 GTDi first appeared in the Range Rover Evoque and is packed with advanced technical features including high pressure direct injection and variable valve timing on both inlet and exhaust.

Ford And Volkswagen Announce Partnership Details

Ford and the Volkswagen Group have announced details of their partnership. The American and German giants will collaborate first on pickup trucks and commercial vehicles for the global market, and plan to develop electric vehicles, autonomous cars and mobility solutions together. VW and Ford sold 1.2 million vans and other light commercial vehicles in 2018, and the pickup truck sector has seen significant growth over the last five years. By sharing development costs, leveraging manufacturing capabilities and optimising cost efficiencies, Ford and VW expect improve their financial results by 023, becoming the commercial sector鈥檚 鈥渉ighest-volume collaboration鈥?in the process. As well as commercial vehicles, Ford and the Volkswagen Group have signed a memorandum of understanding (a nonbinding precursor to a contract) to 鈥渋nvestigate collaboration鈥?related to autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles and mobility services. Leaving the door open for further collaborations, both Ford and VW confirmed they would be 鈥渃onsidering additional vehicle programs in the future鈥? Ford鈥檚 president and CEO, Jim Hackett, said the alliance with VW would 鈥渄rive significant efficiencies and help both companies improve their fitness鈥? while VW Group鈥檚 CEO, Dr. Herbert Diess, said the two companies would harness 鈥渃omplementary market positions鈥? Diess added the partnership would 鈥渂e a cornerstone for our drive to improve competitiveness鈥? The partnership will be governed by a joint committee, led by Hackett and Diess. Do you think a partnership between Ford and VW will be a good thing?

Porsche announced a recall for about 100,000 cars due to a rollaway risk. Models affected include the 2003-2010 Cayenne and 2010-2016 Panamera models. Not every single car is affected by the recall, so owners are encouraged to check their VIN numbers. The problem stems from a bushing that attaches the gear selector lever to the gearbox that may degrade over time, causing it to detach. This detaching of the bushing could cause all sorts of foibles, with the worst effect being that the gearbox is actually in a different gear than the lever's location says it's in. Porsche says one would be able to put the car in Park, take the key out, leave the vehicle, but the car wouldn't actually be in Park. That situation would be a major threat to anyone in the area. Thankfully, there have been no injuries, deaths or property damage stemming from this issue reported thus far. Apparently, the plastic used to make the bushing isn't sufficiently durable to hold up to all the years of shifting gears. Porsche first learned of the issue late in 2018 after several field incidents were documented. Their analysis led them to this recall. You'll want to be on the lookout for a letter from Porsche if you own one of these vehicles. Until then, Porsche suggests that owners use the parking brake every time they park until the issue is fixed.

Toyota will build a new hybrid car for Suzuki at its UK factory, the two brands have revealed while announcing their agreement on how they will collaborate in future. The two firms have been working on a memorandum of understanding since February 2017 and it has now been agreed that Toyota will supply its hybrid system to Suzuki on a global scale. Production of a new Corolla-based hybrid Suzuki model will begin in late 2020 at Toyota鈥檚 Burnaston factory in Derbyshire, while the powertrains will be built at the firm鈥檚 Deeside engine plant. The new model will be one of two Toyota-built Suzukis coming to Europe, with plans for one based on the Corolla estate and another on the RAV4 platform. Toyota will also be adopting newly-developed Suzuki powertrains for use in compact vehicles. These engines will be built with the support of Denso and Toyota at the latter鈥檚 factory in Poland. In addition, the two manufacturers will be collaborating on a number of different projects specific to Africa and India. Is this finally some good news for the UK automotive market?

Prices are yet to be announced, but the new Transporter is expected to reach the market by Autumn this year. Technology revisions include a new electromechanical power steering system. Replacing the old model鈥檚 hydraulic tech allows support for active steering intervention. One of the features offered by the new system is Volkswagen鈥檚 Cross Wind Assist, which automatically stabilises the Transporter in strong gusts. Other safety systems for Volkswagen鈥檚 latest van-based family include traffic assist, parking assist and the newly-introduced trailer assist, which helps to ease the stress during complicated trailer manoeuvres. Inside, an overhauled infotainment system comprises of a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and a 9.2-inch touchscreen with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Now read our review of the Volkswagen T6 Transporter.

I was stunned, too. Porsche might have simply stopped with the first-gen Panamera, because it quickly outself even Porsche鈥檚 wildest expectations. In fact, Porsche currently sells additional four-door models than two-door models. The instrument cluster consists of 4 analog gauges and one gauge that homes a TFT screen that may be organized to show various differing types of car info. With space for simply four passengers, the 2014 Porsche Panamera鈥檚 interior is plush enough to rival Mercedes-Benz and BMW. Al and carbon fiber ar offered at an additional value, and consumers will choose between many upholstery colours to form a bespoken look. The new PDK currently additionally comes with therefore referred to as virtual intermediate gears for any improved fuel economy and luxury. All new 2014 Porsche Panamera aside from the Porsche Panamera Diesel and S E-Hybrid (which go along with a 8-Speed Tiptronic Gearbox) go along with Porsche鈥檚 new PDK casing.

When the motive force accelerates, the Doppelkupplung downshifts to the appropriate gear with lightning speed. 鈥檙e accustomed cut back revs throughout quieter modes of driving up to a speed of around eighty km/h, if shifting to following higher gear would drop revs below the engines lower rev limit. In the back, the hatch is wider and longer. Also, the registration number plate has been moved from the middle of the hatch down into the bumper, giving the backend a cleaner look. Porsche designers reshaped and slightly enlarged the lower air inlets. The headlights, too, ar currently less pointy. Incorporating adaptively controlled dampers with infinite adjustment of damper forces, PASM permits the motive force, through the PASM button on the middle console, to decide on among 3 management maps - Comfort, Sport, and Sport and. 2014 Porsche Panamera models go along with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), a system that varies damper forces in associate degree infinite method and adjusts the dampers to road conditions and also the driver鈥檚 type of driving.

The Executive models are accessible in selected 鈥榣imousine鈥?markets solely like FRG, the us and especially China. Versions ar positioned at the top-end of the model vary and embody several choices as commonplace together with Air Suspension, parking sensors, insulated privacy shut in the rear and 19鈥?Porsche style II wheels. The first-gen base Panamera was hopped-up by a four.8-liter naturally aspirated V8. For 2014, that motor has been mangled into a three.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6. Rated at 310 power unit and 295 lb-ft. Porsche鈥檚 seven-speed PDK double-clutch casing manual transmission. It options direct fuel injection system, variable valve temporal arrangement, associate degree on-demand pump, water cooling with thermal management, a variable manifold and a fuel-saving motorcar begin Stop system. The entry-level Panamera is hopped-up by a three.6-liter V6 engine that鈥檚 derived from the V8 found in additional high-priced models. The 2014 Porsche Panamera models ar any upgraded by new commonplace options like bi-xenon headlights, a multifunction handwheel associate degreed an automatic power-lift boot lid. The construct still includes four individual seats, a driver headed center console and a whole finishing in fine leathers. The second generation Porsche Panamera interior wise didn鈥檛 amendment a lot of with its precursor. When you push past the false bottom to the throttle pedal, that replicates the texture of a kick-down cable in associate degree older automatic gasolene automotive, the supercharged V6 fires at once, rocketing the automotive forward. Porsche designers supplemental during a point within the accelerator for once the S E-Hybrid is being hopped-up alone by the electrical motor.

Volkswagen Arteon Receives More Powerful Engine

Volkswagen has updated its Arteon saloon with a more powerful 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. On sale now, prices start at 拢39,065. The new 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine produces 268bhp and 350Nm of torque. Despite the hike in power and the addition of a four-wheel-drive system, the new engine should still be relatively efficient. Volkswagen claim the new Arteon will achieve 40.4mpg on the combined cycle, while emitting 160g/km of CO2. The four-wheel-drive system hasn鈥檛 encroached on boot-space either, with the new, more powerful Arteon retaining the old model鈥檚 563 litres of boot space with the rear seats in place and 1,557 litres with the rear seats stowed. Both Arteon trim levels can be specced with the new powertrain. Elegance models start at 拢39,065 and offer 18-inch alloys, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, adaptive cruise control and self-levelling headlights. R-Line models are slightly more expensive, priced from 拢39,850, but add 19-inch alloys, R-Line bumpers, R-Line badging and R-Line sports seats. What are your thoughts on the new, more powerful Volkswagen Arteon?

It loses its S nomenclature but we鈥檙e not sure why. The Cayenne E-Hybrid鈥檚 battery is tucked under the rear seat and it sends charge to a 134-hp electric motor. Unlike the Panamera E-Hybrid with its dual-clutch automatic, the Cayenne swaps in a slick-shifting conventional 8-speed automatic with a torque converter. Porsche says that crossover shoppers prefer its smoother shifts and that it also helps the electrified Cayenne tug up to 7,700 pounds behind it. Paired to the turbo-6, total system output is a substantial 455 hp and 516 pound-feet of torque, the latter of which pours on at just 1,000 rpm. There is no discernible lag, something that came in handy as I passed lumbering caravan after lumbering caravan on one of France鈥檚 many May holidays (there are four; color me jealous). In fact, there鈥檚 more boost than I needed鈥攁nd it鈥檚 electric. An unmarked button on the steering wheel-mounted drive mode knob fires up 20 seconds of electric boost to vault the Cayenne E-Hybrid forward, belying its substantial 5,000-pound curb weight.

For comparison, a 1964 Porsche 911 weighs about 2,400 pounds. French villages come quickly on back roads and I often found myself applying the brakes. As with all hybrids, they鈥檙e regenerative, and that means they can feel a little rubbery. At a stop, the Cayenne鈥檚 engine shuts off automatically. For well-heeled Europeans driving from rural areas into city centers that prohibit tailpipe emissions, the battery鈥檚 charge can be held for access later. In case those drivers forget, an E-Charge mode runs the gas engine extra hard to juice up the battery. This seems like cheating because, well, it is. On my drive, I didn鈥檛 need to conserve charge since my journey took me through sleepy towns and not bustling metropolises. Cayenne into a sublime, rip-roaring crossover that snaked its way through Provence鈥檚 hills. With its crisp steering translating the road鈥檚 imperfections directly to my hands, the Cayenne E-Hybrid is no longer about numbers. The Cayenne whittles its way back to the coast, a rain storm outside hardly dampening its appeal. Though my tester rode on big 21-inch alloy wheels鈥攁nd 22s are a new option鈥攊ts air suspension filtered out pavement irregularities.

Almost all cars with keyless entry and go systems are vulnerable to so-called 鈥榬elay鈥?attacks, according to a new investigation. Technicians selected 237 cars with keyless entry, and found 230 were susceptible to attacks where a potential thief could unlock and start the car without having the actual key. A further four could be either unlocked or started, while only three models - all Jaguar Land Rover cars - were able to fully resist a keyless attack. Official Home Office data released last week show car thefts increased by 48.7 per cent over the last five years, while previous research by Auto Express revealed police are logging fewer than 50 per cent of stolen cars as recovered. Relay theft attacks exploits vulnerabilities in the signals transmitted by wireless keys, which are typically sending a weak signal for their respective cars to recognise. By scanning for and then amplifying these signals, thieves are able - with relatively easily obtainable electronic equipment - to convince the car the key is nearby, gain access and drive off with the vehicle. Research from the German General Automobile Club (ADAC) analysed by consumer publication Which? The ADAC advises concerned owners that wrapping keyless keys in tinfoil is no guarantee the signals will be blocked from potential thieves鈥?equipment, as even the smallest gap in the foil could allow signals to escape. Instead, the ADAC advises owners to find out either in their manual, or from their dealer, if the keyless system can be deactivated.
