Audi will launch an all-new A3 Sportback in 2019, and this model鈥檚 range will include an S variant and an RS variant. The third generation Audi A3 hatchback was available in 3-door and 5-door (Sportback), and its RS variant was exclusive to the 5-door (Sportback) version. Audi stopped producing the 3-door version last year citing a significant decline in demand. The next-gen Audi RS 3 Sportback rendering borrows cues from the latest Audi A1 Sportback and Audi Q3. It features a more angular hexagonal Singleframe inspired by that of the A1 Sportback, sharper, wedge-shaped headlamps with LED DRLs in a pattern reminiscent of the Q3, reshaped side air vents and revised lower air intake. The current Audi RS 3 Sportback employs the 2.5-litre TFSI turbocharged five-cylinder petrol engine that produces 400 PS and 480 Nm of torque. The 7-speed S tronic DCT and the quattro permanent AWD system work together to send power to the wheels. Audi claims a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 280 km/h. The next-gen Audi RS 3 Sportback is said to get an uprated version of the 2.5-litre TFSI engine, but that鈥檚 about what is known of this car.

From its roots as a provider of graphics processing power for video games, Nvidia has risen to become one of the most important Silicon Valley companies developing technology for self-driving vehicles. This was underscored recently when the company announced further collaborations with two major OEMs鈥擵olvo and Volkswagen鈥攁nd top global automotive supplier ZF. Together, the announcements signal that automakers are using Nvidia鈥檚 technology for a broad range of autonomous systems, some of which are tilting from research-and-development projects into firm production plans. Chief among them: Volvo will use Nvidia鈥檚 Drive PX computing platform, pictured above, to develop advanced software and artificial-intelligence applications for autonomous vehicles. The announcements come at a time when competitors such as Intel are investing billions in self-driving technology and the race to provide chips, platforms, and artificial intelligence is ramping up. Tesla Motors was the first to use the Drive PX in production vehicles, and Nvidia has a long-standing relationship with Audi.

More recently, it has inked deals with Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, and global supplier Bosch. 鈥淥n the platform side, Nvidia is clearly dominating in the development and early-implementation phases of autonomous vehicles based on the announcements that have come so far,鈥?says Mike Ramsey, research director at Gartner, a global technology consulting company. At Volvo, Nvidia will be developing both hardware and software while working with the Swedish automaker鈥檚 top supplier, Autoliv, as well as Zenuity, a new subsidiary of both companies formed earlier this year to focus on software development. Some of the work will remain proprietary to Volvo, while in some cases, Autoliv will be free to market products to other automakers. 鈥淭his is significant, because a lot of the development work we鈥檙e doing can be leveraged by other automakers,鈥?said Danny Shapiro, senior director of Nvidia鈥檚 automotive business unit. Look no further than ZF, which also announced a deal with German lighting and sensor component supplier Hella. The companies plan to work together on camera and radar ventures that could help OEMs meet upcoming European New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) standards being developed for the mass deployment of semi-autonomous and autonomous vehicles.

Nvidia is now a piece of that puzzle. Drive PX will underpin the efforts of ZF and Hella to create artificial-intelligence software that optimizes camera and radar data for autonomous or semi-autonomous functions. Stefan Sommer, CEO of ZF Group, says perfecting the combination of that artificial-intelligence information with mechanical systems is vital. 鈥淲e need to be a systems supplier, and we need to understand the whole system to understand the functionalities of the future and see business models that we can sell with software solutions,鈥?Sommer said. With Volkswagen, the fruits of Nvidia鈥檚 collaboration are a bit further down the road. The two companies are working at VW鈥檚 Silicon Valley Data Lab to explore how vehicular information stored in data centers can be gleaned for insights, such as how traffic flow can be improved in particular cities. They鈥檙e using artificial intelligence in data centers instead of in the cars themselves, but in many ways, Nvidia鈥檚 Shapiro said, that鈥檚 just as important.

Not only the inevitable X5 M, but possibly an Alpina version, too. And this is probably a pretty good idea of what it would look like. Envisioned by Nikita Aksyonov, these renderings give us an advanced look at a theoretical 2019 Alpina XD5. As enthusiasts of Alpina鈥檚 heavily modified Bimmers will know, that means a high-output diesel engine - the kind still favored in Germany and other European markets. But those same enthusiasts will know that Alpina never currently offer a tuned X5. The closest it鈥檚 come is the XD3 and XD4, based on the smaller BMW X3 and X4. Those have come with a 3.0-liter quad-turbo inline-six, still fueled by diesel oil but producing 388 hp and 770 Nm of torque. That鈥檚 significantly more than BMW offers itself in the X3, which tops out with the M40i (packing 355 hp and 369 lb-ft) and the xDrive30d (with 261 hp and 457 lb-ft). And it鈥檚 comparable to the new X5 M50d, with its 394 hp and 760 Nm of torque. We鈥檇 expect a potential XD5, were Alpina to make one, to boast even more muscle. And it鈥檇 have the subtle but sportier visual upgrades to go with it, too. Now the question is if Alpina will develop such a model. For our part, we can only hope - even if we stand little chance of ever seeing one in North America.

Since the Levante GTS is targeting other high-performance crossovers, we can expect it to have a sport-tuned suspension and large alloy wheels that are backed up by a beefier braking system. Power will likely be provided by a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine sourced from the Quattroporte GTS. It produces 523 hp and 709 Nm of torque and would make the Levante GTS significantly more powerful than the Levante S which has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 developing 424 hp and 579 Nm of torque. The extra power will enable the crossover to accelerate from 0-97 km/h in less than five seconds and have a top speed in excess of 263 km/h.

Cadillac is undergoing a renaissance of late, with a slew of new products and a restructuring of its naming system. One of the new products it鈥檚 planning is the CT5, a luxury mid-size offering that will effectively replace both ATS and CTS sedans. However, what will Cadillac鈥檚 5 Series-fighter look like and what should we expect? That鈥檚 what we鈥檙e here for. Ok, so it鈥檚 not a dead-ringer of Cadillac鈥檚 beautiful Escala concept, though it does carry over some similar styling themes. These include slim LED headlights, trapezoidal 鈥榮hield鈥?grille and vertical daylight running lamps. The long hood and fastback profile also makes the cut, albeit with a higher roofline and more conventional window frames. Sheetmetal surfacing is an evolution of Cadillac鈥檚 Art & Science ethos, with elegant lines and subtle creases. Rear styling is highlighted by boomerang-finned LED taillights, short trunk lid and sizeable exhaust tips. Whilst we鈥檝e yet to set eyes on the interior, expect a good dose of Escala concept to flow into the interior too. Cue large, sweeping digital displays within the dash, highly tailored fabrics, brushed metal trim and ample room for passengers.

On the tech front, the CT5 will be loaded; expect Cadillac鈥檚 鈥楽uper Cruise鈥?semi-autonomous driving assistant, OLED instrument and CUE infotainment displays, retracting infotainment screens for backseat occupants and remote start/locking/unlocking via smartphone app. Power will come from a range of potent powertrains; these include an base turbocharged, 2.0-litre four-cylinder, a normally-aspirated 3.6-litre V6 and an twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6, pumping out over 404 hp and 400 pound-feet of torque. Power will be feed to the pavement through GM鈥檚 10-speed automatic and rear wheels as standard, with all-wheel drive being optional. Fuel economy and eco-conscious buyers will also be catered for with a plug-in electric powertrain that combines a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo engine with an electric motor. I was disappointed in the factory performance to say the least. I have owned a lot of fast machinery and the standard Macan Turbo does not live up to the Porsche Turbo name. I installed the Cobb tuner a few weeks ago and can say it is the best return of horsepower for the dollar. Its winter here in northern new England and the tuner makes sliding around on snow covered roads more fun than before. I mostly drive in comfort mode and the Cobb tuner really helps the low and mid grunt performance of daily driving. I like it so much i'm considering putting a Cobb tune in my 911 GTS.

The fourth generation Ford Focus is ready to take on the Volkswagen Golf Mk8, which will arrive next year, and other models within the popular compact segment. Nevertheless, if a recent report turns out to be true, then it won鈥檛 only take on the hatch and sedan offerings, but some small pickup trucks, too. If given the green light for production, then the Ford Focus pickup would act like a replacement for the Courier. The latter was assembled in Brazil, using the smaller Fiesta鈥檚 underpinnings as a starting point, so the new model would be larger. Details about it are scarce at the moment, but it鈥檚 believed to go into production in Mexico, at the Blue Oval鈥檚 facility in Cuautitlan, to avoid the so-called chicken tax that adds a 25 percent tariff on imported trucks. A launch in Europe is rumored too, but it鈥檚 hard to tell whether Ford will use the shipping routes in the Atlantic Ocean, or if it will produce it somewhere else. Regardless, if everything goes as planned, then expect the Ford Focus pickup to arrive in the beginning of the next decade. Until then, Kleber Silva took a digital shot at imagining it, in a double-cab flavor, using the same front end and taillights as the latest Ford Focus. Elsewhere, the vehicle has an increased ground clearance, plastic cladding all around, roof bars and, of course, an open bed at the rear. The Focus pickup was given a chrome red finish, as well as chrome trim and underbody protection.

The Toyota Supra is continuing its slow march to production as spy photographers have managed to catch another prototype undergoing testing in Europe. The Supra was previewed by the GR Supra Racing Concept which recently debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. As you can see in the latest photos, the production model will be more conservative than the concept but a number of styling details will be shared between the two models. Starting up front, we can see the Supra has slim LED headlights which carryover from the concept. They are surrounded by small air intakes that will likely improve brake cooling. The Supra also features a sporty front bumper with an integrated splitter that has angular tips on the outside edges. Moving further back, we can see a relatively long hood, a rakish windscreen and a double bubble roof. A closer inspection reveals aerodynamic side skirts, two-tone alloy wheels and a compact greenhouse which amplifies the sporty styling. The rear of the Supra is heavily camouflaged but the muscular rear fenders help to emphasize the Supra鈥檚 rear-wheel drive layout. The model also has an integrated rear spoiler, slender LED taillights and a ventilated rear fascia. Other highlights include a Formula One-inspired third brake light which is located in the rear diffuser and is flanked by two large exhaust tips. We鈥檝e only seen a few glimpses of the interior but photos have shown the model will have a three-spoke sport steering wheel with prominent paddle shifters. The car will also have a digital instrument cluster, metallic accents and digital displays for the climate control system. The Supra and BMW Z4, will reportedly be built by Magna Steyr. The first Supra models are slated to roll off the assembly line early next year with a BMW-sourced six-cylinder engine. There have been countless rumors about how much power the engine will have as some publications are claiming around 335 hp while others suggest up to 450 hp.

BMW Italy is celebrating the launch of the all-new X2 by introducing the Rebel Edition. Designed to capture the 鈥渟porting and rebellious nature鈥?of the company鈥檚 latest crossover, the X2 Rebel Edition is based on the X2 xDrive25d in M Sport X trim. Production will be limited to five units and each model will have a Galvanic Gold exterior with customizations done by internationally renowned tattoo artist Pietro Seddon. As BMW explains, the exterior tattoo reacts to changes in temperature. The tattoo is invisible at temperatures above 15掳 C but as conditions get colder the tattoo will 鈥渕agically鈥?appear. Besides the tattoos, the model has a Hexagon M Sport X fabric interior with Alcantara inserts and yellow contrast stitching. The crossover also comes fully loaded with the Audio, Business Plus, Connectivity, and Comfort packages. Power is provided by a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo diesel engine that produces 231 PS and 450 Nm of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission which allows the all-wheel drive crossover to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.7 seconds.

As for the engines, it was offered as a 2.8, 3.0 and M Coupe, depending on the market. Now, BMW has an entirely new Z4 out, which has nothing in common with its predecessor, except for the retained moniker. It鈥檚 available solely as a convertible, unlike its platform-sharing sibling, the Toyota Supra, which will launch as a coupe. Rain Prisk asked themselves 鈥榳hat if BMW brought back the Z Coupe? 鈥?Thus, they set out to imagine the 2019 Z4 as shooting brake, and we have to say that the result it impressive. In addition to the fixed roof, the rendering portrays the German sports car with different taillights that have something very Volvo in their design, and adds a more menacing body kit, new wheels and lower ground clearance. Of course BMW has no intention of building such a thing. In fact, it鈥檚 currently preoccupied, among other things, with promoting the all-new Z4 that, in its most potent form, is powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder unit rated at 340 PS and can sprint to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
