2019 Porsche 911 Carrera T Review

3,000 less than the C2S. That price tag is only part of what makes the Carrera T such a strong offering. 105,100 C2S are a powerful motivator. Equally powerful motivation is what comes standard on the Carrera T and how much of it is either unavailable on the base Carrera or unavailable on every 911 outside of the most hardcore RS models. That latter category is an interesting one. The Carrera T shares its lightweight rear windshield and quarter window glass and low-fat door panels with the 911 GT2 RS and GT3 RS. And like those cars (as well as the 911 GTS and standard GT3), there's less sound deadening, so the sound of the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six is just a little more noticeable. Compared to the base Carrera, the T packs the Sport version of the brand鈥檚 Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as standard. My lightly equipped tester packs the optional seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, heated front seats, and rear-axle steering. The 911 is already a handsome car inside and out, but the Carrera T tweaks the design to stand out just a bit more.

The cabin is largely the same as the standard car鈥檚 despite a handful of special lightweight bits. Fabric door straps replace traditional handles - and look positively awesome. While my tester didn't carry the optional full bucket seats, I'm sure they look equally remarkable. Other than those modifications, this is the same 911 interior you'd find on a base Carrera or Carrera S. That said, it鈥檚 all solid and well-built. The 911 feels like it will last for 100 years or more. Two-door sports cars with firmed-up, lowered suspensions, and reduced sound-deadening hardly qualify as comfortable, but the Carrera T does earn some points for its excellent front seats. Even the manually adjusted chairs that come standard on the Carrera T are comfortable and supportive. There are few better ways to while away long drives, to the point that I question the need for the available 18-way adaptive seats. Unsurprisingly, the second row is next-to useless.

There's so little space for the head or legs, that I鈥檇 hesitate to even call the 911 a four-seater. The 911 also loses points for its tiny frunk. Like the standard Carrera, the T has just 5.1 cubic feet of cargo space, almost half of the 10.1 cubes available in the Mercedes-AMG GT. Thankfully, the cramped rear seat鈥檚 lack of legroom makes it the perfect place to store soft items if the frunk is full, and when those chairs are folded, there's an additional 9.2 cubic feet of cargo space. 700 heated front seats. But since it came standard with Bluetooth, xenon headlights, Apple CarPlay, a 4.6-inch digital instrument gauge, and two-zone automatic climate control, the short option sheet wasn't an issue. 102,000 car is kind of silly. Aside from maybe a head-up display or an air-suspension system, the 911 Carrera T offers a tremendous range of optional goodies. LED headlights (in both standard and smoked varieties), adaptive cruise control, 18-way seats, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a fantastic Burmester audio system are all available for customers willing to pay.

8,000 to make it a far more palatable choice as a daily driver (although that's before getting into the ridiculous aesthetic options Porsche offers customers). My 911 Carrera T came standard with a reasonably sized seven-inch touchscreen. The system is responsive but unattractive, and features a black and gold color scheme with last-generation graphics. The menus are also something of a mess, which makes navigating the various functions difficult. Knobs and buttons you expect to do one thing, like change the radio station by frequency, instead cycle through presets鈥nless you're in the right part of the radio screen. The larger screen and software coming to the next-generation 911 (which will include a T variant) will mark a tremendous improvement over my tester's. That the Carrera T carried Apple CarPlay as standard, though, helped matters. The Carrera T features the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six as the base Carrera. And like that car, it produces 370 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque. Both the Carrera and Carrera T make peak horsepower at 6,500 rpm (1,000 rpm south of redline) and peak torque between 1,700 and 5,000 rpm.

Porsche 911 Carrera (2019)

In the Porsche 911 Carrera, optimised fuel consumption is complemented by Porsche-style downsizing: The 3.4-litre engine delivers more power from a smaller displacement than its predecessor with a displacement of 3.6 litres. That means the Porsche 911 Carrera with PDK is the first Porsche sports car to make it below the 200 g/km CO2 emissions threshold. With its completely revamped suspension featuring numerous redeveloped components, the Porsche 911 Carrera raises the driving dynamics bar yet another notch. The longer wheelbase alone, combined with the wider track width at the front, generates an entirely different geometry with more sure-footed tracking and roll stability at high longitudinal and cornering speeds. With the new electro-mechanical power steering, the Porsche engineers managed to develop a system that combines Porsche's trademark precision and feedback with superior consumption and comfort for the very first time. As the system only requires power when steering, the electro-mechanical system saves at least 0.1 litres per 100 kilometres. The new active Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), available for the Carrera S as an optional extra, expands the lateral dynamics boundaries yet again by a sizeable margin.

PDCC is an active roll compensation system that detects the very instant the vehicle begins to roll when cornering, eliminating it almost entirely. The system makes for greater agility in every speed regime, improved cornering and stable load change behaviour. PDCC therefore represents a new highlight in terms of driving dynamics. Making its debut in the Porsche 911 Carrera S, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), featured as standard, ensures even better tracking and tracking stability, together with reduced sensitivity to load changes. Together with a seven-speed manual transmission, this system comprises a mechanical rear differential lock and variable torque distribution to the rear axle. In vehicles fitted with the Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK), the even higher-performance PTV Plus comes with the electronically controlled, fully variable, rear differential lock. PTV or PTV Plus further improves agility and steering precision by means of selective braking interventions applied to the inside rear wheel. PTV and PTV Plus are also available for the 911 Carrera as an optional extra. To complement the Porsche 911 Carrera's new exterior, the Porsche designers created an interior, the architecture of which takes its cue from the Porsche Carrera GT.

The driver is now even more closely integrated with the cockpit thanks to the centre console rising up to the front with the high-mounted gear lever or gear selector located especially close to the steering wheel in typical motorsport fashion. The most important function and settings buttons for operating the vehicle are grouped in logical clusters on the centre console. Centrally located in the completely redeveloped dashboard, a larger seven-inch touch screen is used to control a rich array of functions. Naturally, the classic, established Porsche touches, such as the five round instruments with the centrally located rev counter and the ignition lock to the left of the steering wheel are also to be found in the new model. Also, both driver and front passenger are seated on newly developed sports seats with electric four-way adjustment. Additional sports seat versions with 14 and 18-way adjustment are also available as an option.

In recent years, tech companies and traditional automakers alike have been wary of any legislation that attempted to set parameters for self-driving deployments, and they have campaigned against much proposed legislation. General Motors, however, takes exception to the idea that autonomous testing is best served by an unregulated approach. 鈥淲e think legislators have an important role to play in making sure these vehicles are being put on the road in a safe way,鈥?said GM鈥檚 Lightsey. 鈥淲e disagree with the idea that states can just stand by and let people put vehicles on the road. Safety may be GM鈥檚 stated reason for supporting the legislation, but USC law professor Bryant Walker Smith sees an additional motivation. He says the company鈥檚 new eagerness to push legislation is a signal that it鈥檚 ready to deploy. 鈥淔or a long time, automakers have said this should be addressed at the federal level, and in some ways, that鈥檚 legitimate,鈥?he said. 鈥淏ut what it seems to say is, 鈥楧on鈥檛 do anything until we鈥檙e ready.鈥?At a point when a company figures out what it wants, that鈥檚 going to change.

In a new video, Porsche continues to tease its ambiguous Project Gold. The video above shows the dip painting process that gives the shell the same coating as modern Porsches. The latest teaser reveals the 993 body that forms the basis for Project Gold. The intakes in the rear help identify it as a Turbo S. Contrary to the design sketches in the original teaser Porsche released, it doesn't seem that the development team makes any modifications to the rear section of the roof. The Project Gold also sports a set of black, five-spoke wheels that have gold accenting the center and around the rim, which should give the Project Gold a rich, handsome look. Inside the cabin, Porsche fitted the seats with perforated leather for the center sections and fine-grained hides for the bolsters. Another touch of gold to be noted is in the stitching of the seams and the "Turbo" embroidery on the headrest.

Seven Secrets Of The Porsche 911 Carrera T

Indeed, the T is basically the ideal sports car. Optional rear-wheel steering provides extra agility at lower speeds and increases stability at higher ones, and the standard torque-vectoring functionality means it turns in with a vengeance. Mid-corner speed is ferocious, and every input is tuned for tactility. The brakes are stellar, and the active dampers both imbue an otherworldly level of handling but also deliver daily-driver ride quality. The T is for Touring. But you could also go with Terrific looks, Twin-turbo flat-six, or True driver鈥檚 car. It has the same engine as a base Carrera. The Carrera T packs a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six that pumps out 370 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque鈥攑lenty of power for anyone not addicted to extraterrestrial-level speeds. Our test car had a seven-speed manual transmission, and all Ts are rear-drive only. It鈥檚 a lower rider. The Carrera T rides 0.4 inch lower than a base Carrera compliments of the standard two-mode Porsche Active Suspension Management. The seven-speed manual transmission has top speed of 180 mph.

The optional dual-clutch PDK automatic adds additional mph, topping out at 182 mph, and also shaves 0.3 second from Porsche鈥檚 stated zero-to-60-mph time. The automatic can do the deed in 4.0 ticks of the stopwatch. It鈥檚 up to you, of course, but we wouldn鈥檛 give up the visceral control of a manual in exchange. The 911 T comes with a few choice goodies as standard. In addition to PASM, the T sports as standard a mechanical locking differential, Porsche Torque Vectoring, the delicious-sounding sport exhaust, a Sport Design steering wheel, and rotary drive-mode selector. There are no inside door handles. Instead, the T gets Porsche-GT-car-inspired nylon pull straps. They save a little weight, sure, but also look incredibly sweet. You bet, but maybe be judicious. You can of course outfit the T with plenty of Porsche鈥檚 famously plentiful options, but we鈥檇 prefer our personal example to come as lightly spec鈥檇 as did our press car.

These numbers are identical to the outgoing Macan, which shouldn't be a surprise as it's basically the same engine apart from several small revisions designed to increase responsiveness and efficiency. This engine features a single, twin-scroll turbocharger located between the cylinders of the V6 rather than off to one side of the engine 鈥?referred to as a "hot-V" arrangement, it has several advantages. The overall packaging is much more compact, giving engineers more freedom for placement in the engine bay. And placing the turbo close to the combustion chambers means there is less distance for the exhaust and subsequent charged air to travel. Shortening this distance increases the responsiveness of the engine to throttle inputs, making it feel sportier than the outgoing unit. Additionally the new twin-scroll turbocharger provides maximum torque much lower in the power band, with maximum torque coming in at 1,360 rpm and staying flat up until 4,800 before starting to fall off.

This huge power curve was highlighted on the narrow twisty roads that bisect Palma de Mallorca, where the punchy 3.0-liter could rocket the Macan out of hairpin bends. It scooted around packs of Tour de France hopefuls without ever feeling like a switch to the PDK transmission's manual mode was necessary to keep the engine on-song. Speaking of the PDK, Porsche's ubiquitous dual-clutch automated manual transmission is standard and has been optimized to the new engines. In both Normal and Sport mode, shift times have been decreased and responses to throttle inputs have been improved. In keeping with the Macan's sporting nature, the Sport Chrono package remains available but with a new feature called Sports Response that trickles down from the 911 and 718 lines. Activated by a steering wheel button, Sport Response increases the Macan's responsiveness for 20 seconds, providing the driver Sport Plus levels of performance (quicker throttle and PDK response) without having to fully engage the Sport Plus mode.

It didn鈥檛 take long after its arrival for the Porsche Macan to become the best-selling model from the luxury automaker. It satisfied not only the growing appetite for luxury crossover SUVs, but also the Macan supplied the performance that many expected from the Porsche badge. The 2018 Porsche Macan is hitting its stride now. A year removed from a turbo-4 base model, the Macan stands pat in the Porsche lineup this year鈥攜ou鈥檇 have to look hard to notice any change from last year. Inaction isn鈥檛 a bad thing here. The 2018 Porsche Macan still earns a good 7.2 on our overall scale with a few notes. Performance predictably rises with deeper pockets; the Macan Turbo鈥檚 available 440-horsepower twin-turbo V-6 is epic. And, like all Porsches, there is a wide range of exterior and interior possibilities that can elevate the Macan鈥檚 style. The Macan stands alone in its shape, the Cayenne has moved on.

We preferred the Macan鈥檚 approach anyhow; its curves and direct line to sports cars read better in our book than the outgoing Cayenne. Inside, the Macan鈥檚 buttons bombard passengers with a bevy of options鈥攚e鈥檒l take it for as long as it lasts, the whole world鈥檚 a touchscreen nowadays. Under the hood, the Macan asks first for a choice between a turbo-4 and a turbo-6, the latter offering several permutations from there. Base Macans get a turbo-4 that makes 252 hp that was new for last year. We haven鈥檛 driven that model. From there, the Macan offers several bank-account draining variations of the turbo-6. Macan S offers 340 hp, Macan GTS ups it to 360 hp, Macan Turbo climbs the ladder to 400 hp, and the Macan Turbo with Performance Package is the pinnacle at 440 hp. All of the above are mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and all-wheel drive. A fixed-steel setup of double wishbones up front and a rear multilink is standard on most models, upgradeable to an air suspension with adaptive dampers (standard on GTS versions). Front passengers do fine, but asking for more than four in the Macan is asking for trouble. Its cargo hold isn鈥檛 entirely accommodating: 17.7 cubic feet by the numbers, but it feels smaller than that due to its shape. Like the Porsche lineup, the Macan can be fitted with many thousands of dollars of optional extras that tip past six figures in top models. Start with a Macan S and add small touches like sport seats, an air suspension, and perhaps a few creature comforts. Opt for a Macan GTS if you鈥檙e the type of person who takes pleasure in the long way home.

You鈥檇 think that people who tend to buy a Porsche 911 Targa would generally prefer to keep them mostly stock, seen as how this version of the 911 is kind of a throwback to the original Targa. Well, here鈥檚 at least one exception, as this particular 911 Targa was converted into something slightly more aggressive thanks to TopCar鈥檚 Stinger GTR body kit. As you can see, the changes are quite noticeable. Compared to, say, a 911 Turbo (or any other fixed-roof 911), this Targa version seems to blend in with the Stinger GTR kit a little bit more seamlessly, probably because there鈥檚 no huge rear wing. As for all the parts that went into making this Targa a little more special, those would be the custom bumpers and fenders (front and rear), diffuser, side skirts, bonnet and badges, most of those being carbon fiber. We also spot what appears to be the Russian tuner鈥檚 upgraded exhaust system. In all likelihood, the interior will also be updated, while there鈥檚 no word on any mods on the engine. Overall, this looks like an interesting build for those who鈥檇 like to make their Targa look more hardcore than the stock item. Is it better looking, though? Well, that鈥檚 up for discussion.

Most Reliable 996 Engine In A Carrera?

In my opinion, that is an apples vs. My advice is to try and drive both, find what is available in your price range, and decide from there. If it were me personally, I'd just forget the 3.4 even existed within the 996 era. Furthermore, I remember reading that the IMS failure issue only affected about 4% of engines out of some-odd 120,000 vehicles. It has just been made out to be a bigger deal than it really is. Do your own research to back that up, though, because I could be remembering these numbers incorrectly. IMS bearing failures are a real problem. The bearing that supports the intermediate shaft was poorly designed and prone to failure. It gives little to no warning before it fails and when it does fail it destroys your motor. Dead, done - you're not rebuilding the old motor because it's fu%ed. You're buying a new motor. This has been discussed to death on line, and then discussed a zillion times more. In the end though, the answer is always the same, only Porsche knows, and they probably don't even know, and at any rate they are not saying anything. Problem is that Porsche replaced a lot of engines in the first five years or so, all under warranty. Not all of them were IMS issues, some were RMS issues that could not be solved, some were for cracked heads, some were for porous castings, some were just service manager's taking the easy route to making a customer happy. Porsche took all of the motors back for analysis. These days we rely on the experience of knowledgeable independent repair people, but they only see cars with problems so they have a biased view. Boxsters sold, so in absolute terms there will also be more failures.

EPA-estimated fuel economy is 12/19/14 with the manual and 13/22/16 with S tronic. The R8 V10 Plus boosts power output to 550 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. Either transmission is available. In Edmunds testing, an S tronic-equipped V10 Plus hustled to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 13/22/16 or 12/19/14 with the manual transmission. Standard safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, stability control, side airbags and knee airbags. Front and rear parking sensors and a rearview camera are standard or optional, depending on the trim. This year, to shed weight and aid in cooling, Audi has changed the design of the non-ceramic brake discs used on all models, except the V10 Plus. Before that change, in Edmunds brake testing, multiple Audi R8s have come to a stop from 60 mph between 104 and 106 feet, which is very good. Meanwhile, a 2014 R8 V10 Plus with the carbon-ceramic brakes came to a halt in 106 feet.

The lightweight R8 seats are comfortable for long-distance travel, and the driving position suits a wide range of people. We like the center stack's elegant swoop away from the driver, but this means that major controls require an inconvenient reach. Additionally, the navigation and audio controls are operated by an unintuitive, dash-mounted MMI knob and constellation of buttons located beneath the display screen. Compared with the electronic interfaces in the Mercedes SLS AMG and Porsche 911, the R8's is noticeably antiquated. One exceptionally clever idea, however, is the integration of the microphone for Bluetooth into the driver's seatbelt. Audi says there's enough room behind the R8 coupe's seats for a pair of golf bags, but you'd have to be pretty hard-pressed for country club transport to try that. The 3.5-cubic-foot front trunk is awkwardly shaped and barely provides enough space for an overnight bag (a Porsche 911 feels like a minivan by comparison). As such, the R8 is not the best choice for a long-distance road trip.

The Spyder models' convertible soft top may be operated at speeds up to 31 mph. It takes roughly 20 seconds in either direction to transform. The Spyder's thermal-resistant leather seats effectively lower surface temperature, which is a nice attribute for open-top motoring. The 2014 Audi R8 rides firmly despite its adaptive suspension, and road noise is pronounced relative to most other Audis. But by exotic-car standards, the R8 is a remarkably comfortable and quiet daily driver. Low seating height notwithstanding, visibility is especially good in all directions. On twisting roads, the R8's preposterous power, quick reflexes and heroic grip conspire to make this 3,600-pound supercar feel as nimble as a lightweight roadster. Speaking of power, the V10 adds an appreciable amount, as well as a uniquely racy soundtrack, but even the base V8 is one of the best-sounding and most tractable engines we've experienced. Unlike the slow-witted and duly criticized single-clutch gearbox offered in past years (and no longer available for 2014), the new dual-clutch automated manual is now the transmission of choice. Sure, the manual shifter is mechanically rewarding and visually stunning, but the quickness and infallibility of the automated manual is unbeatable in terms of true performance as well as comfort. While the V10-powered R8 models have a performance advantage, it's hard to justify the additional outlay of cash in light of how slight the acceleration advantages are and how truly good the V8 versions are. Furthermore, unless you're spending an unusual amount of time at a racetrack, where hundredths of a second actually means something, we'd pass on the 2014 Audi R8 V10 Plus as well. The V10 Plus' weight-reduction regimen reduces some of the R8's everyday appeal.

2019 Porsche 911 997 Carrera 4 & 4S

The new version offers significantly more engine, braking and handling performance than its highly respected predecessor. For the first time, the model will be available with two engine options. It also features wider bodywork, to accommodate larger rear tires, and an enhanced Porsche Stability Management system designed to provide shorter stopping distances and optimal braking. A direct descendant of the famed all-wheel drive Porsche 959, the 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Coupe is offered with two engine variations. The most striking exterior feature of the new Carrera 4 Coupes is their more muscular rear bodywork. To fit the Carrera 4s 295/35ZR 18 and the Carrera 4S 305/30 ZR 19 larger and higher performing standard rear tires, the rear fenders are 1戮 inches (44 mm) wider. The Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system on the new Carrera 4S has two new functions to enhance braking. To eliminate the air gap between the pads and the disk and shorten stopping distances, the brake system is pre-filled prior to full brake application. For optimal braking, the hydraulic pump builds up extra pressure to bring all the wheels into the ABS range if the driver depresses the brake pedal quickly but not forcefully. As with the previous version, the Carrera 4s all-wheel drive system has a multi-disk viscous coupling that transfers between 5 and 40 percent of the driving force permanently to the front wheels. This feature provides excellent handling in curves, straight-line stability at high speeds, and improved traction on slippery roads. To further enhance handling, for the first time the Carrera 4 is available with the new Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system. The optional Sport Chrono Plus package is also offered as an option on both models. For sportier performance, it modifies the engine management characteristics and the control behavior of the PSM and PASM systems. 127,500 CDN for the Carrera 4S Coupe.

BMW has unveiled its new i8 Roadster safety car. It was unwrapped on the eve of this year鈥檚 E-Prix at the 鈥淵acht Club de Monaco鈥?and, like its sister model the previous i8 Coupe safety car, it features a few performance upgrades, tweaked styling and a wild livery. BMW claims its new i8 Roadster is the world鈥檚 first open-topped safety car. Performance modifications for the i8 Roadster safety car are relatively minor, stretching to a set of M Carbon Ceramic brakes, an FIA-approved roll bar and new front splitter and rear wing, which BMW claims improves the i8鈥檚 downforce. It also features a uniquely shortened windscreen, which lowers the car鈥檚 centre of gravity by 15 millimetres. The i8 Roadster鈥檚 drivetrain is unchanged from the road car, meaning the rear wheels are powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, while the front axle is driven by an electric motor. Power and torque figures are 369bhp and 570Nm respectively and, thanks to its reduced weight, both its 0-62mph time and top speed should be improved. The i8 safety car was developed and built as an out-of-hours project by BMW i division, and marks the German firm鈥檚 fifth season as an official vehicle partner of the Formula E racing series. As well as this new safety car, the race series uses a BMW i3 as its race director car, a BMW 530e for its medical car and a BMW X5 40e as its rescue car.

2019 Porsche 911 Carrera T First Drive Review

Congratulations on the promotion! It鈥檚 time to order that Porsche you鈥檝e talked about for years. Your heart is set on a 911, but this is a tricky crossroads. 120,000 sticker is a bit dear. Now you鈥檙e torn between the excellent base Carrera and the even more excellent Carrera S, weighing which model offers the best package of available performance goodies. Neither, actually. Your money belongs to the Carrera T, the newest non-GT offering in the ever-expanding 911 family. Don鈥檛 think too hard about the name-the T is for 鈥淭ouring,鈥?just like the ubiquitous 鈥淕rand Touring鈥?nomenclature in GT3 and GTS. Here, the T stands alone, but it鈥檚 hardly less Grand or Sport than its big brothers. 50 years ago, the 911T served as the (relatively) cheap-and-cheerful entry point into the 911 line. It鈥檚 the same with the 2019 Carrera T, offering less tinsel and trim for fewer bucks. For that extra eleven grand, Porsche plucks some of its go-fast hardware from higher-up in the price range, creating one of the purest driving experiences available with a warranty. It鈥檚 noticeably lighter as well, using thinner glass in the rear windshield and side windows-kit pulled from the GT2 RS.

There鈥檚 also less sound insulation and GT-inspired nylon pull straps in place of the regular door handles. 5,200), Porsche yanks the rear seats out, dropping the overall weight down to an impressive 3,142 pounds. External changes are more subtle. Aside from matte badging on the rear decklid and a stripe down the lower portion of the doors, spotters should look for a Sport Design front and rear fascia, along with Agate Grey mirror caps. It cuts a sleeker profile as well, sitting 0.8-inches lower on 20-inch Carrera S wheels. It鈥檚 buckets of fun, even if it isn鈥檛 much faster than the regular Carrera. Around back, the T utilizes the same 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six as the rest of the Carrera lineup, from base to GTS. Here, the sixer uses the same tune as the vanilla Carrera-370 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. Power is shipped to the rear wheels through your choice of seven-speed manual transmission or seven-speed dual-clutch PDK.

The asceticism, along with a modified final drive, drops the 0-60 mph sprint of the manual transmission car by 0.1 second to 4.3 seconds, and down to 4.0 seconds for the PDK. Flat out in either Germany or Montana, and you鈥檒l hit a top speed of 182 mph for the PDK or 180 mph for the manual. Power, shmower. If you鈥檙e worried about beating meaty 鈥榁ettes light-to-light, you鈥檙e missing the point entirely. That鈥檚 not to say the T isn鈥檛 quick, however. There鈥檚 a thick, syrupy torque curve that stretches from 1,100 rpm up to 5,000 rpm, thanks to the twin snails bolted out back. Don鈥檛 for a second listen to the moans from the combative Porsche purists. From the bottom to the top, the Carrera lineup is better with forced induction. Compared to the old free-breathing 3.6-liter and 3.8-liter sixers from a few years ago, there鈥檚 fewer dead zones and power drop-offs.

Finally, the 911 has satisfying speed at every level, and not just for those with the deepest pockets. It also sounds properly Porsche with the standard active sport exhaust, now just two chutes mounted in the center of the rear bumper, a-la-GTS. From the outside, onlookers get a healthy dose of flat-six howl with a delicious dollop of turbo spool. From the inside, that thin rear glass gives way to a symphony of mechanical gnash and intake snort that reverberates through the hollow cockpit. You could take it to the track just like any other flavor of 911, but the Carrera T feels most at home out on surface streets. More specifically, it鈥檚 magic out on the snaking routes that weave through northern California鈥檚 green hills and massive redwood forests. It鈥檚 a deeply satisfying car to drive, especially with the rear-wheel steering and PTV. Turn-in and mid-corner speed is ferocious, belying the T鈥檚 bargain-basement status. Every input is tuned for tactility, from the light steering to the stellar brakes. That 3.0-liter is far from the million-volt shock of the GT3鈥檚 4.0-liter screamer, but the cabin echoes with sound, vibrating the seatbacks and steering wheel. As one of the recent 鈥減assion鈥?Porsches like the 911 R and GT3 Touring, the T signals a bright future for fans. As a purist鈥檚 car, it鈥檚 peerless-just make sure you get those perfect sport seats and rear-wheel steering.

What I can verify is that after a day of tossing and turning on the narrow, serpentine roads of this mountainous Spanish island, neither the Macan nor the Macan S put a wheel wrong. The newly-designed Porsche Connect app lets drivers access various features through all Apple and Android smartphones. No different from before: there鈥檚 still a reasonable amount of room for all five passengers, and the rear seats fold flat for bulky cargo. There鈥檚 500 litres of space behind those rear seats and 1,500 litres when they鈥檙e folded down. A lovely and sporty SUV, easily capable of competing against the stiff competition in the luxury compact SUV segment. The writer was a guest of the automaker. Content was not subject to approval. New Car In Brunei - Porsche Cayman GT4! Its finally here people! 2 UNITS of the track focus Cayman GT 4 has landed. I am more speechless seeing this ride then seeing the GT3RS. Both are the best GT series from Porsche. This yellow just landed about an hour ago before I got these pictures. And yes the GT4 is parked right next to my car. Oh man how I wish I can own this beaut! The other Cayman GT4 is in white. This Racing Yellow sadly has already been taken. Manual for the car purist! Check out the carbon fibre interior and yellow slated air-con vents. Did you guys notice something about the car wrap protection between a GT4 and a GT3 RS. The GT4 didn't even get the full protection wrapped as compare to the GT3 RS I posted earlier. Nevertheless finally I can see one GT4 soon. I didn't expect a rare car like a GT4 to arrive in Brunei. Enjoy your weekend guys!

Porsche has revealed the new 718 Cayman GT4 in race-ready Clubsport spec, giving the world a big hint at what we can expect from the next GT4 road car, due towards the end of this year. The GT4 Clubsport, built to spec by Porsche Motorsport for race teams globally, it said to be the first production racing car to feature natural-fibre composite body parts. The lightweight material, similar to carbon fibre, is used in the doors and in the car鈥檚 rear wing, means the car is 130kg lighter than a Cayman GTS. The news that will delight purists most is that the GT4 Clubsport retains the old version鈥檚 3.8-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six, rather than moving to the turbocharged four-cylinder unit found in all current 718 Caymans. Here it produces 425bhp, 40 more than before, and puts its power down through a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a mechanical rear axle differential lock. It鈥檚 not clear yet whether the road-going GT4 will feature the same power output, or be offered, as before, with a manual gearbox option as well. But head of GT car development Andreas Preuninger confirmed to Autocar last year that the flat-six would be retained in this year鈥檚 GT4.

Six Reasons I've Bought A Porsche 996 Carrera

It鈥檚 no secret that I鈥檇 been harbouring ambitions to get myself into a second-generation 996 since the end of last year. Fortunately, my first field assignment of 2016 was to conduct Total 911鈥檚 996 Carrera Gen1 v Gen2 head-to-head in issue 136, and I came away from that test positively amazed by the value for money a 996 Carrera holds. So much so, in fact, that I decided I had to have one, and soon. However, the car did have RPM Technik鈥檚 110-point inspection and boroscope (closely resembling that of the service at an OPC) and it鈥檚 since had a major service and IMS upgrade carried out at RPM. I also opted for a lightweight flywheel from the company鈥檚 revered CSR range. So, it was good to go, and I collected the car at the weekend. In a bizarre way, long-term 996 ownership fascinates me, so I鈥檒l be reporting on my experiences - warts n鈥?all - with the 996.2 C4 in the 鈥楲iving the Legend鈥?owner reports section of Total 911 in each issue.

Gone is the 鈥榮hoot-from-the-hip鈥?placement of buttons and dials that stymies the interior experience of any air-cooled 911, replaced by a cabin that鈥檚 had clear purpose and ergonomic thought gone into it. So, you have performance and mod cons all together in an enviable package for just a little more than a first-generation Boxster - and with a 996 you get the added prestige of entering into 911 ownership, too. Only a brave man would currently start modifying something like a 993 Turbo, in my opinion, as residual values for classics such as those are so high. However, humble values of the 996 mean modifying won鈥檛 significantly affect its resale potential. Also, parts are relatively cheap, and you can take your pick from a wide spectrum of specialists who鈥檝e now got nearly 17 years experience in fine-tuning their products to make the great 996 even greater. By and large, these are all key components that no longer ring true on any 911 currently sitting in OPC showrooms. Moreover, the 996 is petite: place a 996 Carrera next to a 991 Carrera and delight in the former鈥檚 elfin appearance - exactly how a 911 should be. If you find rust on one, it鈥檚 likely down to poor accident repair work, rather than anything that can be levied at Zuffenhausen. Let鈥檚 be honest, values of these can鈥檛 go any lower. There鈥檚 been a small spike in residual values of the 996 in recent months too, though this is largely immaterial. The fact is, the 996 is a great 911, and people are finally waking up to its merits - I am one of them. As a specialist recently remarked to me, it鈥檚 funny how the ugly duckling can turn into something of a swan, eh? I couldn鈥檛 agree more.

Adaptive shock absorbers with coil springs and an air suspension are options if you want to improve ride/handling characteristics. 16,000 in performance options to the Macan S if you want, including carbon-ceramic brakes, the aforementioned upgraded suspensions, a torque-vectoring function for enhanced cornering rotation, sport exhaust and more. Interior styling is purely performance-minded. Our test car was equipped with optional red and black leather, red accent stitching and aluminum accents. Porsche鈥檚 signature center-mounted tachometer has a huge presence over any other gauge; it鈥檚 a testament to the Macan鈥檚 driver-oriented nature. 12,000 of convenience and media options, including blind spot monitoring, a heated steering wheel, heated and cooled seats, heated rear seats, a panoramic moonroof, navigation and a Bose stereo. About that heated steering wheel: The on/off button is hidden behind the wheel, in the bottom spoke. It鈥檚 nearly impossible to find without consulting the owner鈥檚 manual or getting a pointer from someone in the know.

Brightly colored red sport seats hug your sides like good all-purpose sport seats should, with supportive bolstering and enough lower-back padding to make long drives doable. With how little room they have, backseat passengers may not be as happy to spend long drives in the Macan. There鈥檚 a big hump in the middle of the floor, and the panoramic roof cuts headroom. At 6 feet tall, I felt shoehorned into the backseat. There鈥檚 significantly more room in the larger X6 and GLE450 AMG, which you can compare with the Macan here. Another signature Porsche interior characteristic is a massive center console littered with buttons 鈥?not only for typical controls such as Sport mode or heated seats, but also independent buttons for each available airflow direction for the climate system. It鈥檚 actually not a bad setup. I acclimated to the layout quickly and appreciated having buttons at my fingertips for functions that are normally hidden within layers upon layers of touch-screen menus.

What Are The Differences Between A Porsche 911 Carrera 4S And Carrera

Porsche's web-site shows 20 different 911 models available (not including the 911 R) including the Carrera, Targa, Turbo, GTS and GT3. For the Carrera, Targa and GTS versions you can choose some version of all-wheel drive: Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa 4S, and so on. But how do you choose? What are the major differences between Porsche's all-wheel drive models and rear-wheel drive models? Nick Murray attempts to answer that question in the video below. Nick Murray's latest Porsche is a Carrera 4S. Fortunately, Nick has a friend with a very similar Porsche (it's a C2 version in the same color with the same transmission. Slight penalty in MPG for AWD models. AWD models get about 1 MPG less than the RWD models or 28 MPG vs. Slightly larger gas tank. 2 MPH according to Porsche. For normal day-to-day driving chance are you won't notice much of a difference. It's not until you take these Porsche's onto the track or out for more spirited drives that you really start to notice the difference. According to Nick, the all-wheel drive system has the potential to "suck some of the fun out of owning a 911". This, again according to Nick, is because the all-wheel drive system makes the Porsche so "safe". How do you decide? At the end of the day, how do you decide between AWD or RWD Porsche? Basically, it's a personal decision. You'll need to make the decision based on how you plan on using it and where you live. Hopefully, this information will help.

See full article and comment. Digging around under the hood of our 2015 Porsche Macan S reveals some interesting and precise engineering. Even casual observation shows critical thought and heavy expenditure in an area that sometimes isn't given such effort. Here, it's Porsche's careful management of every bit of air flowing into the Macan's nose. See full article and comment. The fact that Porsche stuck with its tried and true instrument panel setup that puts the tachometer front and center is great, but I would have been satisfied with analog gauges regardless of where the tachometer was placed. See full article and comment. We added another 1,600 miles or so on our 2015 Porsche Macan S in October. A couple of short road trips boosted the overall mileage slightly, while our around-town driving made sure it didn't move the numbers too far out of the norm. See full article and comment. I have a rule: I don't fly to San Francisco, San Diego, Phoenix or Las Vegas.

1962 PORSCHE 356 CARRERA 2 GS COUPE Chassis No. 120840 Engine No. (KD) P97311

Tested at various races during development, the high-performance dual-cam engine was also evaluated by the Porsche staff in their personal 356 examples, even though the motor was originally positioned for use in the 550 Spyder racecars. In September 1961 Porsche addressed this perception by introducing an updated version of the Carrera that was exclusively available as a coupe. The original dual-cam motor design was endowed with even more power by enlarging displacement to two liters, and reclassified as the Type 587/1, resulting in the fastest Porsche road car to date. Recognizing that the pure torque might be a handful for inexperienced customers, Porsche outfitted the new Carrera with disc brakes all around, and it was the first Porsche road car to be so equipped. Desirably equipped at the factory, this Carrera 2 was optioned with ventilated chrome wheels, a chrome signal ring, and an electric sunroof. In 1971, the Carrera 2 was purchased by Seth Anderson, the owner of Anderson Aviation, a vintage airplane concern in Los Altos, California. Mr. Anderson and his wife took considerable efforts to track the specifics of their car with Porsche A.G., as reflected by various correspondence from the factory. Realizing immediately that they had acquired a true sports car classic, the Andersons retained possession of their highly original Carrera 2 until 2008, accounting for 37 years of single ownership. Purchased then by Chuck Lawson of Dallas, Texas, the Carrera was soon treated to some restoration measures, including a full rebuild of the dual-cam Type 587/1 motor by Jacques Le Friant of Scott's Porsche Parts in National City, California. Completed in 2013, the four-year process left the car in a stunning state of display, with the exterior and interior authentically refreshed in the original color palette. The success of the restoration was confirmed with various showings and awards at premier Concours events.

The Range Rover Evoque may look much like the old car to the untrained eye, but with just a few Velar-inspired tweaks a near decade-old design has been brought right up-to-date. The car has a longer wheelbase than before to try to free up some more rear passenger space, but that sloping roofline still poses an issue for taller occupants. In the front, a good driving position is easily found - eight-way manually adjustable seats are standard on entry-level models, with S, SE and HSE cars getting 10-, 14- and 16-way electric adjustability respectively. S models get heated seats, while the SE and HSE add a memory function for multiple drivers. Rearward visibility isn鈥檛 fantastic thanks to that narrow rear window and slim glasshouse, but the optional ClearSight rear-view mirror (拢450, standard on HSE) helps solve this issue. It uses a roof-mounted camera to display an uninterrupted, widescreen view of the road behind or - at the push of a button - can be returned to a conventional mirror.

There are four generously sized storage bins, a large cubby under the centre front armrest and a useful rubberised tray on the centre console that鈥檒l happily store a phone or wallet - cupholders are located beneath this. The Range Rover Evoque measures in at just under 1.65m tall, 4.37m long and a few milimetres over 1.9m wide - or 2.1m including mirrors. For comparison, the Volvo XC40 is a few millimetres taller and longer, but a shade narrower at 2.03m including mirrors. The BMW X2 is lower, measuring just over 1.52m tall, but almost the exact length and width of the Evoque - 4.36m and just under 2.1m including mirrors, respectively. There鈥檚 enough space in the Evoque to sit one six-footer behind another, but despite a small increase in leg room over the original car, the rear-seat occupant will still feel a little hemmed-in. Longer journeys may become uncomfortable for adults in the rear as a result; sitting three-abreast will also prove pretty cosy as the car tapers towards its rear. The sloping roofline will annoy anyone much over six feet tall. Rivals like the Volvo XC40 and Audi Q3 make a much better job of rear-seat packaging.

The Evoque鈥檚 boot is up 10 per cent in size versus the outgoing car. There鈥檚 591 litres on offer with the seats up, but this is probably measured floor-to-ceiling; rival鈥檚 figures seem small on paper by comparison, but the difference is not as drastic in actual use. For example, BMW quotes 470 litres for the X2 and Lexus 475 litres for its NX. Fold the seats down and there鈥檚 1,383 litres of space to play with. The rear seats folds on a 40:20:40 split - this can be done via a handle in the boot. The Evoque lives up to its badge when it comes to towing. All Evoque models can tow an unbraked trailer of up to 750kg; choose an automatic gearbox and diesel engine combination and there鈥檚 up to 2000kg of braked trailer towing ability. The entry level diesel with two-wheel drive and a manual gearbox is limited to 1,600kg braked trailers.

Those are the words of a luxury Lamborghini Huracan owner in a video posted to YouTube of the day he got his new car. The driver, a 37-year-old man, admires his new vehicle. Sophia died after being hit outside a Chinese restaurant on Mophett Road in Glengowrie. Her friend was taken to hospital in a serious but not life-threatening condition. The driver has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing injury by dangerous driving and will appear before an Adelaide magistrate next Monday. Restaurant owner Kiet Tran said the driver and another woman were uninjured in the crash. 鈥淲e heard a big bang, like that and (we) came out and 鈥?saw the car like that in front of my restaurant,鈥?he told reporters. The vehicle, with the licence plates 鈥淧SYKO鈥? had been at a car show that ended about 9.30pm. Attendees said the driver 鈥渄rove in normally鈥?and left without a scene.

1987 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera

Between 1984 and 1989, when the global economy was booming, Porsche had the right performance car to steal people鈥檚 hearts and wallets 鈥?the 911 3.2 Carrera. The 911 3.2 Carrera featured the stunning aesthetics of a 911 Turbo, one of the largest displacement air-cooled engines in Porsche 911 history, renowned reliability and a relatively affordable price tag. No wonder a record 76,473 of these dream machines were sold! The 5-speed manual Getrag G50 gearbox introduced in 1987 features a hydraulic clutch, as well as smoother shifting and a shorter shift lever than on earlier 911 3.2 Carreras. This is one of the reasons later models are more popular than earlier models now. The interior is classic 911 with supportive sports seats and minimal embellishments beyond the usual five gauges designed to keep you clearly informed and less likely to become carried away with the accelerator pedal. Inside, as well as outside, everything is handbuilt and the craftsmanship is impressive. Handling is excellent with somewhat heavy steering that provides well-defined feedback.

The ride is taut but comfortable courtesy of standard Boge dampers that are softer than available sporty Bilsteins. This dark blue 1987 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera coupe is in great shape with low mileage, a G50 transmission, a galvanized body that effectively resisted rust all these years and comprehensive service records showing the owner鈥檚 loving care. Whether you envied yuppies in the 1980s and pasted 3.2 Carrera posters on your walls, or seek an adrenaline rush in something produced before you were born, this 3.2 Carrera won鈥檛 disappoint. The New 911 Carrera 4 With New Porsche Wheels And All-Wheel Drive

One of the most popular Porsche 911 models with every model generation are the 911 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S Coupe and Convertibles. The 911 variants feature the newest version of the all-wheel drive system that powered the 997-generation models, wider bodywork for a more aggressive stance, special Porsche wheels, and better performance. Much of the same technological advancements as the new 991-generation 911 models are still featured underneath the sheet metal to ensure that the new all-wheel drive variants have the performance to back up their Porsche badge. All four of the new Carrera models utilize a new version of Porsche's all-wheel drive system with a rear-wheel bias to emphasize the sporty character of the high-performance cars. All four of the Porsche wheels are driven by the all-wheel drive system and connected to a standard seven-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed, fast-shifting dual-clutch PDK transmission. The new Carrera 4 Coupe and Convertible models will be powered by the new 3.4-liter flat-six engine with direct fuel injection, vario-cam technology, and other efficiency and power advancements. The rear-mounted 3.4-liter engine sends 350 horsepower at 7,400 RPM and 287 lb-ft.

5,600 RPM to each of the four new Porsche wheels. With the smaller six-cylinder engine of the group, the Carrera 4 Coupe can accelerate to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds with the manual transmission and 4.5 seconds when equipped with PDK. Top speed for the Coupe is set at 177 mph with the manual and 175 with the PDK-equipped version. In the higher-priced 911 Carrera 4S Coupe and Convertible models, a bigger 4.0-liter flat-six engine with the same advanced technology powers all four lightweight Porsche wheels. The bigger-displacement engine is capable of producing 400 horsepower at 7,400 RPM and 325 lb-ft. 5,600 RPM, giving it an output of 100 horsepower per liter of displacement. The additional power helps propel the Carrera 4S Coupe to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds with a manual transmission and 4.0 seconds with the PDK transmission. Top speed for the Coupe is reached at 185 mph with the manual and 184 mph for the PDK-equipped models. The exterior of the new Carrera 4 models is also different than their standard rear-wheel drive counterparts. Each of the rear fenders have been extended by 22 mm and the Porsche wheels by 10 mm as compensation, giving the models a more powerful appearance. Inside, much of the overall design, options, and features remain unchanged. Facing the driver is a new all-wheel drive display that shows how much power is being sent to each axle along with a new adaptive cruise control system and front-end collision avoidance system to protect occupants from a possible accident.

America's next top Model? The Porsche Cayenne range is now expanded to include a Turbo S model with 550 hp, an increase of 50 hp from the Cayenne Turbo. The new Cayenne Turbo S sport utility vehicle employs advanced active chassis technologies. These technologies allow it to surpass the driving performance of many sports cars, while preserving the off-road capability, ride comfort and towing ability typical of the Cayenne. In addition to an increase of 50 horsepower compared to the Cayenne Turbo, the Cayenne Turbo S also benefits from increased engine torque, which is boosted from 516 to 553 pound-feet. This translates into faster acceleration and a higher top speed. The Cayenne Turbo S is equipped for maximum dynamic performance. Accordingly, it incorporates chassis and drivetrain technologies which are optional on the Cayenne Turbo. More specifically, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus), and Power Steering Plus are now standard, in addition to the air suspension with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which is already standard on the Cayenne Turbo. PDCC allows for even flatter cornering, improving agility and ride comfort.

PTV Plus adds torque vectoring at the rear wheels together with an electronically controlled rear differential lock, which improves traction and therefore offers more agility in a wide range of driving situations. The new Cayenne Turbo S is also equipped with the Sport Chrono package as standard, which includes an analog and digital timer located at the center of the dashboard. The performance display informs the occupants about the total driving time, lap distance covered so far and individual lap times. It also shows latitudinal and longitudinal acceleration via the TFT display in the instrument cluster. The exterior of the Cayenne Turbo S lives up to the high standards of a top model. The front air intakes and rear view mirror trim are painted in high-gloss black. The standard 21-inch 911 Turbo II wheels with colored Porsche badges are exclusively tailored for the Cayenne Turbo S; their inside surfaces are painted in high-gloss black. The wheel arch extensions and rear spoiler separation edge are painted in exterior color. The model also features dual twin-tube sport tailpipes in polished Aluminum. Porsche designers created an exclusive two-tone leather interior package that is available in either Black/Carrera Red or Black/Luxor Beige combinations. They feature an exclusive combination of contrasting colors and pieces that are further accented by deviated stitching throughout. Front and rear seats feature the Porsche Crest embossed on the headrests while the roof is covered in Alcantara from front to rear. The instrument panel, door, and center console trim showcase the standard Carbon Fiber interior package that further complements the exclusive interior. 1958 Porsche Carrera GT Speedster

A Carrera engine would not accept compromise. 鈥淎ny preparation effort less than 100%,鈥?said Bruce Jennings, would mean 鈥渁 pussycat instead of a tiger.鈥?Jennings was a 100% man. This was his car, nicknamed 鈥淢ahidabel鈥? It is also the winningest Carrera GT Speedster of all time: three SCCA National Championships (1958 with 鈥淧up鈥?Pupilidy, 1960 and 1963 with Bruce) and a total of 67 National SCCA race victories. Its hallmark was outstanding speed: for some reason which Bruce could not explain, irrespective of any change in engine or transmission, 鈥淢ahidabel鈥?invariably turned a faster lap than any of his other cars. In the mid-fifties, Porsche claimed the Carrera to be the world鈥檚 first 1.5-liter 200-kph production car. Previous owner Pupilidy鈥檚 success with this car, Bruce insisted, was because Pup was the first driver to take advantage of the 6:31 ring and pinion. Himself a devotee of gear ratios, Jennings honed transmission set-up to a fine art. This Carrera Speedster was Jennings鈥?medium-speed course car. He had two more GT鈥檚, one each for short and long courses. Jennings found it was easier to switch whole cars than continually change all components on the car attendant to being competitive at different circuits. Modifications to this Carrera Speedster include Spyder gears, a full-race 1600cc RS-60 engine, external oil cooler, Spyder steering wheel, special shocks, heavy sway bar, front annular disc brakes and RSK turbo-finned rear drums. 鈥淢ahidabel鈥?was originally an all-steel panel car, but Bruce added lightness by substituting an aluminum hood and deck.

50,920 base price isn鈥檛 cheap, it鈥檚 still relatively attainable. 鈥淭o make the car so expensive would defeat the purpose of a Toyota sports car,鈥?he said. He said he wanted the Supra to be something that normal humans could possibly afford if they worked for it. I closed by asking Tada what aspect of the new Supra he was most proud of. He gave me a solid enthusiast answer: the noise. 鈥淭he sound of the engine,鈥?he said with a grin. 鈥淣ot just when you鈥檙e on the throttle, but when you鈥檙e off. There are very stringent sound regulations these days. One generation before, there were a lot of cars that had a really good sound. Being able to create the sound on the Supra, he said, 鈥渋s almost a miracle. For the first time ever, I buy a Toyota to get BMW reliability ? And there are very minor differences in some components used on the Z4 and MKV B58's.

For instance, the oil pump and turbocharger are Toyota designs exclusive to the Supra. Is the B58 as-is 100% equivalent to a 2JZ-GTE? No. However BMW engineers were required time and again to revise or redesign whichever parts from the B58 that Toyota's QC analysis teams deemed not up to Toyota standards and they complied. This requirement was further applied to the entire co-designed chassis, suspension, etc. and any part that applied to Toyota's version of that shared underlying chassis and driveline design. On another note the co-developed chassis DID see manual testing sometime during the R&D phase at least for the Z4's 2.0L 6MT model only slated for Europe. 170k in some trims the Supra MKV should also be doing exactly the same. The R35 is a magnificent supercar but it's already far more expensive that the original 2007 model and its a very different car than the 1998-2002 R34 GT-R and the R33 and R32 that preceded it.

Nissan decided to take it where they did and the car world is certainly better for it but it's no longer an attainable GT-R, nor does it offer the same style of involvement that the R32-R34's did. 50k car (not including a later GRMN which will command significantly more) is a lot closer to attainable while still offering most of what people expect from a Supra. Of course currently minus a manual transmission option. 100k with the VR engine family. But whatever. The R35 has already been a legend since it first arrived and that's that. 20k BorgWarner DCT transmission I'm happy that Toyota's Supra is roughly half that. 80k car. Ever check the actual monthly sales numbers for Nissan R35 GTRs? It's not many at all. Toyota wants to sell a LOT more MKV Supras than Nissan sells R35 GTRs. The R35 GT-R is all about using any technology necessary to produce the highest performance number benchmarks possible.

2019 Porsche Carrera GT

This 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, with only 152 original miles, is one of the most pristine and showroom-fresh examples in the world. Racing has always been at the heart and soul of every Porsche, but no single production example of the marque intended for street use embodies this competition heritage more than the Carrera GT. The car was initially designed as a Le Mans Prototype race car with the internal designation of 鈥?R3.鈥?The entire monocoque and sub-frame is of carbon-fiber construction鈥攖he first production car to ever feature this as chassis material. This extremely lightweight yet exceeding strong structure was absolute cutting-edge technology during its era. The race-inspired design is also reflected in the engine鈥攁 V-10 displacing 5.7 liters and producing 605 horsepower. This powerplant was originally designed and built by Porsche as a Formula 1 race engine for the Arrows team. Although it never saw competition in Formula 1, Porsche had every intention of using it in the 鈥?R3鈥?Le Mans Prototype for active campaigning in the 2000 season.

The single greatest attribute of the Carrera GT is the pure driving experience that it delivers. The car requires鈥攏o, demands鈥攜our absolute attention and involvement. Each Carrera GT comes equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission鈥攖here is no automatic choice. Hence, leisurely driving in the automatic mode is not an option. The fore and aft weight distribution is optimized with the longitudinal engine/transmission unit placed amid-ship via sub-frame in the chassis. Porsche employed two design measures to drastically lower the center of gravity including a dry-sump lubrication system coupled with a multiple friction disc clutch assembly. The suspension is pushrod activated to inboard-mounted dampers and springs. Porsche engineers were so confident in the cornering capability of the Carrera GT that it is totally devoid of any electronic stability-control devices. Although the Carrera GT suspension limits of adhesion are far beyond the driving talent of all but mortal drivers, the absence of an operator-error safety net fully necessitates your total concentration. Likewise, the high-winding Formula 1-inspired engine has a spine-tingling wailing sound as it approaches its 8,500 RPM redline while registering more than 96 decibels on the sound meter.

This does not leave the necessary silence to carry on a soft conversation with your passenger during a spirited drive. The Carrera GT is a driver鈥檚 car that rewards you with sublime telepathic cornering, neck-snapping acceleration and Formula 1 auditory feedback. Introduced in 2004, the Carrera GT was received with universal awe and adulation. The car was drop-dead gorgeous and demonstrated amazing performance. The factory-rated top speed was 205 MPH, and the car could accelerate from 0-60 in 3.6 seconds. This level of performance is impressive by even current standards. 448,000, and production was limited to just 1,270 units. Actual sales prices far exceeded the sticker price with captive buyers willing to pay a substantial premium to own one. This car presents beautifully in Basalt Black with dark grey leather interior. This is a rare opportunity to own one of the finest remaining examples of the world-class Carrera GT supercar, and one of just 604 imported into the United States.

It鈥檚 sharp and positive yet there鈥檚 some softness that makes it easy to relax over long distances. Sure, critics claim electric-assisted steering - which is now common to all Porsches - is less sensitive than the old hydraulic system and, in turn, that was regarded as being much softer than the non-power units of the early cars. So it鈥檚 quick, responsive and quiet. Not quite. I had expected more kick in this S version. More noise, more punch. But it鈥檚 a predictable and linear engine and perhaps that鈥檚 what Macan buyers want. Maybe this is the norm while the forthcoming (2020) GTS will be the one to pick for all the noise and neck lash. First the elephant in the room - there鈥檚 no autonomous emergency braking (AEB) unless you tick (and pay for) the optional pack that includes active cruise control. Further, AEB won鈥檛 be standard on the next Turbo and GTS Macan variants.

Kia doesn鈥檛 tend to issue many recalls, and the Sorento has been called back just twice in its seven years on sale. The first time was in June 2013, relating to cars built up to the end of April 2011. This concerned a brake light switch fault, potentially leading to ESP, cruise control and gear selection issues on autos. It also affected the Soul, Sportage, Optima, Carens and Sedona; over 40,000 cars were recalled. Then, last month, Kia called back 24 Sorento 2.0 and 2.2-litre diesels built from 1 September to 31 October 2011 because of the risk of the fuel feed hose deteriorating. The Mk2 Sorento has never appeared in our Driver Power satisfaction survey, but the Mk3 ranked in a very respectable 32nd place in last year鈥檚 poll. Across all three generations, Sorento owners score their cars an average of 4.2 out of five (84 per cent) on our sister site, Carbuyer; most Mk2 drivers rate theirs between four and five stars.

Porsche 992 Carrera [spy Shot]

Porsche will reveal the all-new 911 in less than six months and more details emerge about the iconic German sports car. Set to make its public premiere at the Los Angeles motor show this November, the new Porsche 992 will set new standards in pretty much every aspect, especially in terms of performance and technology. Perhaps the most significant change over the outgoing 991 generation is the adoption of a brand new scalable architecture, which is said that it will be shared with the next-gen Audi R8 and Lamborghini Huracan. Autocar reports that the new platform is made out of a range of interchangeable modules, allowing the three VW Group sports cars to use it and despite their obvious differences in the engine mounting department. Porsche will start selling the base Carrera and Carrera S models initially, which will continue using the turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six unit of the current model. The engine will adopt a number of changes for better performance and reduced emissions, including a new particulate filter and revised turbo geometry. There鈥檚 a general feeling that the upcoming Porsche 992 will become the first 911 to be offered without a single naturally aspirated engine in the range. Speaking about the Porsche 992 Turbo, the same report says that it will offer as much as 600 hp in the range-topping Turbo S version. The new 911 Turbo will also benefit from an updated four-wheel drive system. The most drastic change in 911鈥檚 history will be the upcoming plug-in hybrid version. However, don鈥檛 expect it to show up until closer to the mid-life facelift of the series. It is said that the PHEV powertrain will combine the turbo 3.0-liter flat-six engine with an electric motor and a 11kWh battery pack for a combined 500 hp.

An optional Weissach package makes more weight-saving measures (about 40 pounds), bringing a roof, paddle shifters, anti-roll bars and tie-rod ends all made of carbon fiber, plus magnesium wheels. Other options include a front axle lift system (strongly recommended, since the aero kit cuts ground clearance to a bare minimum), a larger fuel tank, LED headlights, leather upholstery, voice control, and a 12-speaker/555-watt Bose surround-sound system. The Porsche 911 range remains untested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Nor does the GT2 RS offer any weight-adding driver-assistance features like blind spot monitoring. However, all the mandatory safety equipment provides sufficient protection. Porsche says 0-to-60 mph comes up in 2.7 seconds. We believe them. Top speed is limited to 211 mph. This is a real world "insane mode" fueled by air and gasoline and It's brilliantly quick -- all others seem tame by comparison. The GT2 recently set the production car lap record at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

A standard Carrera will arrive later, along with a manual option, but for now only the S-spec 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six engine is available, mated to an eight-speed PDK automatic transmission. Thanks to the PDK鈥檚 launch control, the 0-62mph sprint now takes just 3.7 seconds in the rear-wheel drive Carrera S. This drops by 0.2 seconds if you go for the Sport Chrono pack. In fact, it feels at least as punchy as the previous 911 GTS, which boasted the same power output as this Carrera S, revving out here with ferocity and a fairly free-spinning feel at higher rpm for a turbo engine. With 530Nm of torque sustained from relatively low down at 2,300rpm all the way through to 5,000rpm, the mid-range punch is great too. Four-wheel drive isn鈥檛 a necessity in our opinion as traction in the two-wheel drive car is so strong - a typical 911 trait that hasn鈥檛 been altered with this move to the 992-generation model.

This MMB platform, as Porsche calls it, features retuned PASM adaptive dampers that are more intelligent and now more adjustable on the move, monitoring the suspension鈥檚 state of travel up to 100 times per second and reacting to improve comfort. But it鈥檚 not at the expense of handling. All the cars we tried were fitted with rear-axle steering, which boosts the agility of the car in slow corners. That wider front track means there simply isn鈥檛 an understeer problem on the road - the 911 turns, sticks and goes. But there鈥檚 a strong sense of communication with it. Gone are the days where a 911鈥檚 steering moves with the road, but this electrically-assisted setup is faithful, consistent in its feel across the rack鈥檚 range of movement and quicker than its predecessor, which translates into an alert-feeling front end. You get an idea of the grip building up and ebbing away. The more sophisticated suspension also means the car flows better on corkscrewing, poorly surfaced roads, but the level of control is still present. Its ability at each end of the spectrum appears to have been widened without compromising either trait.

PASM adaptive dampers and a 10mm chassis drop are worth it. In the softer mode the suspension is compliant, in Sport it feels stiffer vertically with a slight degradation to comfort and a tauter edge to the body control, but it鈥檚 not wince inducing. We鈥檇 still leave the suspension in its default mode most of the time though. Compared with its predecessor the engine has been tweaked dramatically to improve performance and efficiency. New, larger and more efficient turbochargers are teamed with repositioned intercoolers (now on the top of the engine) that offer better cooling of the intake air. Much effort has been focused on small detail improvements throughout the engine, but they add up to a noticeable result. Throttle response is strong for a turbo engine. Performance is still the key though, and those turbos give the 911 incredible mid-range flexibility but do dampen the noise a little. However, we knew this from its predecessor and at least with the Sports exhaust engaged it鈥檚 still got a characterful enough sound signature that means it emits a noise like little else. It still produces the 911鈥檚 trademark bassy, raspy bark. A detuned version of the 992 will arrive in time. Expect a similar 30bhp increase to the S model over its predecessor, so around 395bhp. However, for now, this Carrera S or 4S with PDK is your sole option.

Porsche Carrera GT

Released at the 2003 Geneva Auto Show, Porsche鈥檚 Carrera GT was a final production version of the concept car first seen at the 2001 Paris Auto Salon. It was Porsche鈥檚 first limited production supercar since 959 production stopped in 1988. At the time of launch, it was one of the few available products that rivaled the Ferrari Enzo. Unlike the 911, which carried the company for four decades, the Carrera GT was complete bottom up design. Its styling was thankfully unchanged from Paris show car and departed from the traditional Porsche shape which the 959 couldn鈥檛 escape. Motivation for the Carrera GT came directly from Porsche鈥檚 successful motor sports program and the Porsche WSC-95 Le Mans prototype. After winning Le Mans twice in 1996 and 1997, Porsche revived an old V10 engine for the 1999 season but it was shelved only two days into track testing. Fortunately, the 5.5 liter V10 was used in a one-of 2001 Paris Auto Salon concept car which was received well enough for production to begin two years later.

Under the skin, the car used many modern hallmarks of motor sport engineering: a carbon fiber chassis, dry sump lubrication, inboard suspension and a mid-mounted engine that was engineered to sit as low as possible to ground. Porsche鈥檚 V10 engine can trace its roots back to a unit developed in secret by Porsche for the Footwork Formula One team. This development halted in 1992, but was resurrected for a WSC-95 successor that was never completed. Bored out to 5.5 liters, this unit then found its way into the Carrera GT Prototype. When production commenced, it was modified by Porsche engineers to ensure more power and reliability. Such revisions included a larger displacement which offered more torque and driveability. This engine is placed in the middle of the chassis in a three-point carbon subframe. This is unlike Paris Show Car which featured its V10 as a load bearing structure within the chassis. Had Porsche not used a subframe, noise leakage and vibration would have hampered interior comfort.

The intake system is equipped with Porsche鈥檚 VarioCam technology found on the current 996 range. VarioCam continuously adjusts the angle of the intake camshaft to optimize performance and output. Making the engine as light as possible was a primary goal. A light alloy crankcase and titanium connecting rods help the engine have a weight of 452 lbs (205 kg). Compare this to the Enzo鈥檚 V12 weighing in at 496 lbs (225 kg). Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a newly developed six-speed manual transmission. Attached is a special clutch which has a reduced size and weight. Called Porsche Ceramic Composite Clutch (PCCC), this two-plate clutch is made of ceramic composites. Such materials not only help reduce the rotational masses of the clutch by a factor of ten, but offer less wear than conventional material. Combined with a lightweight flywheel, rotational mass of the engine is exceptionally light. Another highlight of this clutch is its short diameter of only 6.5 inches (165 mm). At such a height, the transmission and engine are very short and mounted low in the chassis.

Well the crankshaft rotates just 4.0 inches (102 mm) from the floor and the transmission actually sits lower than the rear differential. Providing a basis for the Carrera GT is a carbon fiber monocoque with carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFP) sub frames. Among the carbon body and carbon frame, metal pieces are few and far between. For instance on the chassis, the front rails, a-post inserts, fuel cell and suspension are the only major non-carbon elements. The chassis is manufactured by the ATR Composites Group. They are specialist Italian carbon fiber manufacturer which coincidentally make the tubs for the Ferrari Enzo. Production at ATR is two complete chassis per day. A carbon rear sub frame isolates the entire drive train and rear suspension from the chassis. Having the engine completely supported CFP materials is new concept to production car manufacturing. It was concept developed by Porsche鈥檚 Motor Racing Division and is subject to patent.

Suspension elements include double wishbones with inboard damper and springs on all four wheels. The inboard dampers and springs are actuated by pushrod and dampers like the setup used by every Formula One constructor. Braking on all four corners is executed by the capable Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) system and for the first time on fifteen inch rotors. Consisting of ceramic discs and composite pads, the system is lightweight and resistant to corrosion. PCCB reduces the unsprung weight of the braking system by fifty percent. Four channel ABS comes standard. Attached to the braking system are forged magnesium wheels which weigh less than the tires wrapped around them. Michelin makes the only tire approved for the Carerra GT. They feature a soft compound rubber on the outer one third of the tread. It is suggested by Porsche that these tires need replacement every 15000 miles. A large rear wing provides down force at the rear of the car.
