Mini has already teased the new Cooper SE and has also provided a preview of its fresh design language by unveiling the Aceman. It'll morph into a small crossover positioned below the next-generation Countryman, but it's the traditional Three-Door Hardtop that will inaugurate the design approach on a production model.

Four-door models add $1,000 to the window sticker price, and convertibles cost $5,000 more than their hardtop two-door counterparts. The 2022 Mini Hardtop is available as a Cooper, Cooper S, John Cooper Works (JCW), and the Cooper SE electric model. Each is available in Classic, Signature, or Iconic trim. The destination fee for each is $850. Four-door Hardtops cost $1,000 more than the 2-Door Hardtop models.
The base Mini Cooper Hardtop 2 Door has a starting MSRP of $22,900. That rises to $26,900 for the Mini Cooper S and $32,900 for the John Cooper Works. The four-door and convertible models are pricier, with the convertible JCW starting at $38,900. Whichever way you slice it, the Cooper is one of the most expensive cars in the class.

The 2022 Mini Cooper Electric Hardtop is back with a fresh new face, new wheel design options, and a standard 8.8-inch infotainment display. Under the skin, things remain the same, however, which means you get a peppy 181-hp electric powertrain and a disappointing 114-mile maximum range.
The Cooper SE uses the body and basic design of the regular Mini Hardtop but also incorporates electric motors and batteries developed in concert with Mini’s parent company, BMW, and the discontinued BMW i3. Where the i3 used its battery pack and electric motors to drive the rear wheels, the Mini Cooper SE is strictly front-wheel drive.

We were given a Cooper S Hardtop to test drive, which comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 189 horsepower and 206 lb-ft of torque, up from the 134 hp and 162 lb-ft from the base model's 1.5-liter three-cylinder. A six-speed manual is standard across the board while a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is optional.
